in the UK, well that did not last long, their prices have now dropped. Just watched another mint boxed sell for under £50 with ni on 200 viewings.

Wowzers.

The cheapest carene I've seen in the US is 150 used. Bought mine from JML new 200 shipped. I periodically search for Carenes but have never seen one go that cheap. I also JML selling some for 80 euros this past spring, but since then nothing even close to that.

For 50 bucks, I would have quite a few more carenes...

"Ahh, thanks?"

I've been noticing the carene prices dropping quite a bit as well... Just picked a user grade black and yellow gold with a silver cap (cant remember what model they called this years back) for a pretty solid deal :)

Damn, they don't offer it on the Canadian site! That is a great deal!

All I want is 1 more pen, and 1 more bottle of ink, and maybe 1 more pad of paper. Well, at least until tomorrow. Oh yeah, and throw in that bottle of single malt. Is that asking for too much?

thanks Chris.

Hi, all. Been reading the boards since 2007, but this is my first post. I was going to start a new thread but this thread seems like it may be a good fit.

I just found a new Carene for $149. It's the gloss black gold trim, fine nib model S0700300. The seller says its new in box, never inked. He says he only sells genuine products, fully documented. He also has 100% positive feedback. Everywhere I look, I see the Carene selling for $275 or just under. A few sellers have them down to $230 or so, but they are the minority. So I'm suspect of a $149 selling price.

Now on this thread I see people saying prices are dropping. Did I just hit a great deal? Is this the price drop people are talking about on this thread? Or should I be suspect? That's a full $75 less than the lowest Amazon price or FPH price.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

Rico

It sounds very good but if a Private deal you may not have the luxury of returns should it have a problem. But that is the gamble we all take at times.

I have seen lower grade pens (Phileas) advertised for over £1000 and high grade pens (an Exception set) for a BIN of £30 so its all in the eyes of the seller/owner as to how much they think it's worth or want for it or for that matter how much someone wants to pay.

In real terms this must be considered good value for the money.

Thanks for the responses. I was just hesitant at that price. I guess concerned of counterfeiting or something.

We'll see when the pen gets here.

Thanks again.

I've yet to see a counterfeit. Doesn't mean they're not out there, but the inlaid nib takes a fair amount of engineering, so the counterfeiters tend to stick to more traditional builds they can bung an irridium nib onto.

I bought a new Carene with the gun metal cap for $115 on Ebay, which was one of the best deals I've had this year. Maybe the Carenes are way past their prime. Their popularity is on the decline. what do you think?

I think if I can find a gunmetal with a B nib for that price, it'll decline into my pocket. :hmm1:

Who could not love that nib...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
