Caran D'ache Leman Ballpoint Opinions?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm looking for a good highend ballpoint pen and saw one of the CDA Leman ballpoints at a local dealer I was just curious if this is a good quality built to last pen. The pen is beautiful in my opinion but for $375 I would like some opinions on their quality and durability.

Thanks,

John

Well.. I do have one, but I got it as a gift quite recently, so I cannot speak for how long it will last. It however feels very VERY good mechanically, with just the right weight for me. Looks good too. If I understand correctly, they come with a lifetime warranty, which should say something about the quality.

As for the writing - well, it has the same refill as the Caran d'Ache 849 which you can buy for $23 in many places in the USA. I got one of those too. Much smaller grip, but very nice pen too.

Although I personally would not spend $375 on a ball point pen, the Caran d'Ache Leman is a very VERY nice pen. Personally I like the one with rhodium trim best. At this price point you can however get many classy pens, and I'm sure you'll also get the advice to get something much cheaper and put a quality refill into it.

The corresponding fountain pen is also very VERY nice. :)

The one I like the most I think is called the ebony version and it has the rodium trim. They do have the matching fountain pen and it is also gorgeous but I must admit I have never used a fountain pen so I tend to stick with what I know also my hands sweat horribly and I'm not sure that would work out with a fountain pen. Thank you for your response glad too hear you like yours if you don't mind me asking which color variation did you recieve? That is really nice gift too receive.

I have one that is getting repaired. The twisting mechanism isn't working correctly. Other than that, it's a great weight. I'm getting it fixed so I can trade it in because it's been sitting in it's box for months and I'd really like to get another FP.

I did use it quite frequently though. That is a rather steep price for it. I'd look around a bit more if I were you. If you're interested, PM me. It's the mirror rhodium version.

a few years actually. I stopped using it because it started messing up... In a way, it's a good thing because I switched to FP's :) I've finally got off my butt to send it in to Filofax, so Bob Nurin is taking care of it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
