Filofax Refills - Poor Paper

Recommended Posts

I have long used Filofax diaries and paper usually in A5 size. It would seem that the paper they use for their diaries is deteriorating each year. I've just tried to write in the 2013 diary and the results are awful.

I raised this with Filofax last year and they advised that I use the cream refills which are of a thicker paper - but sadly still not good. What refills do other fountain pen users use in the A5 filofax?

I have a pocket organiser from WHSmiths (not a Filofax brand) with WHSmiths inserts in it. I used an orange Pilot VPen and the results weren't too bad. No feathering that I can see, but there's a bit of show though. (Although I'm not too bothered by that myself). Then again, the VPens do have lovely fat nibs so if you're using something thinner you might be alright. Try picking up some of the WHSmiths branded notepaper or something to try out - then if it's not great you've not spent too much ona whole diary and you have a little bit of scarp paper.

Hope this helps a bit. Good luck.

I use the "cream" calendar/personal size, and it is usually "ok" for me. I have never used their filler paper, due to cost and quality.

What i did do is take one piece of filler with holes to a local print shop. They made/punched/cut pages for me of a paper i was able to try on the spot. (ended up using a creamy, smooth, bamboo paper, which they lost access to, but i got a lot of sheets the first time). Anyway, lots cheaper than the Filofax paper, and fp friendly, since i picked the paper.

I have the standard Filofax 'personal' size cover and bought Ryman's Bank paper specifically to trim down and punch, to use in that when I needed refills. The Rapesco punch does the job perfectly but it's not as easy to get the holes right for the A5, I believe.

Search for the paper reviews by Daniel Coffey and there are comments about the Bank paper there.

I purchased refills from Day Planner, undated pages and the results with fountain pen ink. I was thinking to buy a refill from Franklin Covey but now I have second thoughts about it.

I buy A5 Paper and punch my own holes in it with a 6 hole A5 Filofax Punch. Added benefit is you can run it through a printer to add lines of dots and even create to do lists. There are also Diary generators available on the net for free.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
