I'll be travelling to Osaka and Kyoto in Sept. Are there any pen shops (in terms of product range and price) one should visit there?

Thx Kai

Best regards, Kai

No exactly in Osaka. But, it's in the next city Kobe. As I heard this shop often hosts pen clinics, I believe they should have a decent selection.

Thanks! Unfortunately I won't have time to goto Kobe so will check out that store in Kyoto.

Here's a store - the one time I went to visit it was closed, can any Kyoto residents provide more info?

I have been to that shop. Nice place with a great variety of new pens. It was raining the day we visited and we're fortunate to have the time to be able to try out many models. Full price only. There was another shop listed in the telephone book. No address, just telephone number. You might ask someone to look up mannenhitsu for you and provide directions.

In Osaka you must visit Morita Pen Shop. Search on FPN for more details.

There's a well-stocked Nagasawa Pen Den branch in Osaka too. On the 2nd floor of Maruzen/Junkudo bookshop in Umeda.

The Umeda area is central but can be tricky to navigate, so allocate enough time. There's a Books Kinokuniya in Umeda as well that has a pen counter.

Happy hunting!

As with some other products, do you find prices of pens less expensive in Osaka / Kyoto vs Tokyo?

I think they are pretty much the same. Brick and Mortar stores usually sell at the full retail price. Better prices and deals are always on the web.:)

I know this is quite an old thread, but I was looking around for information, since I'll be in the Kansai area in mid-February. I lived not far from Kobe for a while, so I'm really familiar with the Sannomiya area and will definitely check out Nagasawa- it looks fantastic. I understand that Morita-san has moved his shop, but is due to move again in 2013. Does anyone have an idea of where he'll be or what the situation is? I expect to be in Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto during my trip, so any other leads would be much appreciated. I'm mostly looking for the Pilot Iroshizuku ink, but I'm certainly not one to rule out a pen purchase or two, as well.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
