CUTLERY BOX :bonk:

Sorry. Just read this thread again and, well I need to fit out one of my wife's boxes as a cutlery box. I have been meaning to do it since she got it for the cutlery, erm, 18 years ago. The fancy cutley is just dropped in it at the moment. I need to put in little green baize covered dividers etc.

Regards,

Richard.

No, I don't. My wife loves boxes of all sorts and has decided she wants to use a lovely carved (Indian or possibly Islamic flower style) box as our cutlery box so it can be seen and regularly used. It's my problem to make it suitable.. Something I have singularly failed to do.

Regards,

Richard.

How would you like it finished ?

Michael

Thank you sooo much, Michael :cloud9: May I please have a wax finish? Thank you!

Hi Fuchsiaprincess

I am sorry I have not updated you on your box I am sorry to say it was not up to a standard that I would send out.

The good news is I have made another and it is ready to be cut in half which I am planning to do on Monday or Tuesday depending on the snow :). I will post some pictures soon.

No apologies required, Michael  It is a hobby, not an assignment - so there is no deadline :bunny01: :bunny01:

At long last I have access to a camera and can show you Michael's fine work. My daughter says it looks like an ice cream sandwich. The walnut stain on the inner lip is a really nice idea. The slot turned out to be just a bit tight for a Parker Vacumatic, but is exactly right for this 1942 Duovac, which you can see in it. Sorry for the quality of the pictures. I do not take pictures very often and need much more practice.

Thanks so much for this box, Michael. It is now permanently ensconced on my desk and consequently that Duovac is going to be getting a lot more love.

These are the most beautiful boxes!!! ...Your recent smooth versions are also wonderful, but I know this is a great idea for a gift, together with a vintage pen.

My friend has agreed to do this for me as I am struggling with my right arm at the moment he also has a very cool table saw.

I am having some problems with veneer chipping not just this rosewood the walnut veneers have also chipped badly on the edges. I might make a box with an edging strip maybe in a contrasting colour

This is the dark version of the Princess box I made a little while ago.

First coat of sanding sealer applied this fills the pores in the wood and stops the wax from disapearing when it is applied.

A couple of pictures to keep a certain Lady happy :roflmho:

Just have a care to get the right paperwork with all that beautiful crafting.

Oz is a place that is very stringent on making sure wooden products have the correct papers. The company I work for had a very expensive box for a satellite component burnt at the dockside in Sydney because the wood hadn't been certified as being treated with an approved insecticide.

It would be a shame if customs/the post office got up tight about it all.

Regards,

Richard.

I really don't know if the rules apply to small items, but after the way the Australian authorites got up tight about dirt on our shoes when we went on holiday I wouldn't be so sure...

Regards,

Richard

It does apply to small items. A friend emigrated to Australia and she took a pencil box which contained a pencil made from a twig. She was given a choice of paying $300 to have it irradiated or having it confiscated and burned.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
