I have a question for you, if you'd be so kind... I am looking at writing the personal parts of our 'Thank You' cards from our ceremony in October using my FP. I have however literally this past week just decided I would like to find my back into FP fandom. I have exactly one pen, a Sheaffer Nononsense with 3 nibs, a B italic, a 4B italic, and a SH-4 shadow ("music"?). I only have black skrip ink cartridges. By no means am I good at (or in my mind, passable at) using the italic nibs for something people will see. Similarly, I don't really like the broad nib. But I think it would add a nice touch.

How did you feel doing your invitations, the time involved, the obstacles, the errors, etc?

I love how you are replying in this thread (or is it how you always reply?)... by actually writing out your replies on paper! I must compliment you on (to me, anyway) exemplifying the spirit inherent in using FPs!

Anyway... I only have those three nibs, but I think I may experiment with the SH-4 nib to see how it would look. I have to think it would make a nice touch on "thank You" notes! BTW, congrats on your upcoming special day!

The only time I don't hand write my posts is when I'm driving.

You post when you're driving? O_O

and... are you driving an auto or something on rails unsure.gif

My car.

In traffic is best, cars moves slower. It just sucks workin the clutch because I need my left knee to work the steering wheel.

mellow.gif whoa.. be careful bud..

think of it like this.. if someone rear-ends You, if the officers check your cell records, your wallet may suddenly become thinner, when they decide you might have been able to get out of the way. Or, if you rear-end some auto, your wallet, for the foreseeable future, is toast.

besides your handwriting is so much nicer than boring old text, right?

or god forbid- you get in a serious accident (either your fault OR someone else's) and it ends up affecting your writing hand, like a broken wrist!

If you don't mind sharing, why doesn't Nora like it? Too mushy? Or silly? Or basically declaring your eternal love for FPs (^_~)?

It kinda just hit me that the Lord of the Rings quote was what you wanted to have inscribed... little slow on the uptake today. ^_^;;

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
