Pilot Customer Service

I just had to share my recent experience with Pilot customer service.

My P-823 plunger filler recently stopped functioning. I contacted their center in FLA through their web site contact form; explained my problem; they responded within a day or two and told me to send it in; I did; after a couple weeks, the pen arrived in the mail today with a restored plunger system--GOOD AS NEW.

The best news besides the fixed pen--NO CHARGE!

Pilot 823 are among my favorite pens on the planet, and with customer service like that, I won't hesitate to buy another.

Great!

Only one question: is the 823 officially distributed in the USA?

It is not in Italy, so I'm a bit worried about what would happen if... (shudder)

Hi Dave,

I concur. I've had Pilot/Namiki look at several pens over the years and each time the service has been remarkable. Marina Heil is an absolute gem to work with and the service work is both fast and very well done. I've paid for work only once out of four separate occasions and have come to the conclusion that when Pilot says they have a warranty they really mean it!

I have had great service too. I recently sent my Custom 823 in; it had a broken plunger from a fall. I sent along 9 M-90s with various bent nibs, etc., and a black Bamboo whose barrel had separated. Within a couple of weeks, they all returned repaired, replaced, whatever it took. No charge. I will be buying more Pilots--one of my favorites, anyway.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Seldom reported on FPN. But the model is not that old for the wear and tear issues to be reported more often.

Sacs, Plunger seals and Piston seals are all bound to wear out. The real question is, how long will the spare parts remain available? Are these repairs DIY, can you buy/make a third party plunger seal and restore your pen(not every one has access to Pilot's great service, it is non existent in my country for example).

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

Hi,

The plunger seal in the 823 is a rather unique design. I don't see it wearing out soon. The examples I have seen have a urethane seal that slides up and down on the tip of the piston rod to open and close a valve. There are of course the seals on the barrel end of the pen as well. Those might go first.

Marina is a very patient angel. She tried to help me find a part for an obsolete Pilot Murex Quartz, even to the extent of contacting Pilot in Japan, but alas, there are none of the quartz clocks still around.

She was very pleasant and prompt in my dealings.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
