Eagle Pens

Recommended Posts

I emailed Smiths three days ago to ask when / if they were getting more stock and they've not deigned to reply. Not impressed.

the only problem associated with WHSmith is that, the prices of their pens changes so fast.

You never konw when it is the best chance to buy a pen.

For example, a parker Duofold ball point pen has once been only 50 pounds, then, 75, then over 100 pounds. Maybe sometimes, the price drops again.

For lamy 2000 fountain pen, I don't think 80 pounds is a good deal.

However, maybe the studio ss with 19.99 pounds is a good deal. But I have once got a set of studio (FP+BP) with only 20 pounds in John Lewis during the SALE.

I have once ordered two same pens from WHSmith. Only one is in stock (of course, you can't read the stock number on its websit), so it arrives very quickly. For the other one, WHSmith just asked me to wait until they sent me an email. And I have waited for nearly one month to get it.

I highly recommend anyone who wants to make an order with WHSmith, just order one each time but not multiple ones unless you do not mind to wait for a long time.

W H Smith have replied to my email to say that they're expecting stock later this week, and that as soon as they receive it my pen will be despatched. Really hope that this is true!

They're now showing as "In Stock" on the website, but I haven't heard about my order from 1st. May yet. :(

Not being smug - seriously - but as soon as I heard about this offer (a month ago?), I ordered one, and got it the next day, or possibly in two days tops.

I bet they were inundated. I'm quite encouraged by the suspicion that word spread, quite possibly from this forum alone, enough to flood Smith's with orders from people who, like me, would definitely not have bought this pen at £175 from TWD, Cult Pens, etc., which is the going rate in Britain.

I'm positive that all those who are miffed at the delay will get their pen in time.

I wish you luck with getting a good one. Mine's very, very good, though I'm about to ask a question, and may as well do it here:

Although the pen's a very good writer, I'd like a slightlt wetter nib. Is it possible/advisable to do the old Mottishaw thumb-pressure slit-expansion trick on these nibs? And if so can it be done with the small area of nib already exposed, as I don't know how to dismantle the bugger.

My order status is now showing as Confirmed rather than Awaiting Stock, so I guess that's progress.

Too bad it is only available for UK addresses.

You all, congrats with a great pen for a good price!

'Ready to send' was yesterday for me... It's on the way today.

Sadly it will be on a trip to Germany for a nib change before it comes into use.

I was tempted by the WHSmiths offers and the Lamy 2000 was oh so tempting but I shot an email off to Lamy (Germany) about getting the nib changed to an extra fine nib and they quoted 100GBP.

Needless to say, that put me right off. So I opted for a pair of the brushed steel Lamy Studio's and ordered some extra fine nibs from elsewhere.

Ordered just under two weeks ago and still waiting :crybaby:

It's very strange.

In spite of the web site saying 'In stock' and several posters saying that they had been notified of imminent shipping, I had the following email from WHS today:

'We have not yet received stock of the item(s) you ordered. These items are on order with our supplier. We will dispatch them as soon as we receive stock. If we are unable to get stock we will cancel your order and contact you.'

I enquired using the on-line form;

If I buy a 2000 from a retailer in the UK can I send it to you in Heidelberg for a nib change. The retailer only has them in a Medium and I would like a Broad.

Also had a shipping notification.

A friend has just hovered over buying one, changed his mind (he's a careful spender) and deleted it from his basket. WHS then emailed him apologising for difficulties in fulfilling his order and offered 10% off. So now's he's bought it at an even greater discount..!

Looking forward to mine arriving. Just got four new Diamine inks, and it'll be just the pen to road test them.

I had an email and my status is now showing as "Sent". Very exciting!!! Maybe we've been part of an experiment on delayed gratification? I think I could even be justified in posting something in the "what are you waiting for in the mail" thread (but I won't!)

So, first it's 1-2 weeks then yesterday it says 'In stock' on the web site but nothing happening with my order. Later yesterday I get an email to say that they had no stock and may cancel the order.

Today, I get an email to say that the pen is in the post to me.

Go figure.

I heard Amazon and other sites do that as well - abandon your shopping basket at the last stage before confirming the order and you're likely to get an email offering a discount. I keep forgetting to try it.

I had that email yesterday, but I bet they still send it via standard delivery. You would hope after a six week wait the least they could do would be to upgrade the delivery

I had the same thing: I wanted to order one, but had to abort when I found out they didn't ship outside the UK (I live in the Netherlands). When I got the 10% discount e-mail, the offer got even more attractive and frustrating to me since I couldn't order one.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
