Schmidt Iridium Point Nibs

Hi guys

I have some very good, very smooth Schmidt Iridium Point nib units lying around without a pen for them and I was wondering what pens out there uses these nib units or can fit with them so I can exchange the unit simply by screw them on and off.

I know the Rosetta, the Fiorenza and the Retro 51 use them, I've also "heard" that TWSBI Micarta can fit them but what other choices do I have?

Thanks!

I have a pen with written "Schmidt iridium point." What does this mean???

Few pen manufacturers make the nibs and feeds themselves. Usually they just buy it from someone else, but there are very few nib manufacturers, for example Bock, JoWo, etc. Schmidt is a big redistributor who doesn' make nibs himself, but buys them and assembles the nibs and feeds so that the pen manufacturers can buy complete nib units and don't have to think about that stuff any more. On some of these nibs it's printed "Schmidt iridium point", on others the name of the pen company.

For "iridium point": The tip of the nib has a tiny blot of "iridium" for ease of writing and better durability of the nib. It's actually not real Iridium, but rather an alloy of several metals.

@andybiotic:

If I remember correctly, Online pens also use Schmidt units.

Greetings,

Michael

It means it's a nib made by Schmidt in Germany. The tip has a bead of iridium or similar metal welded onto the end and ground/slit into a writing surface.

TWSBI 530 and 540 but you need to pull the nib out of the collar I think.

Sensa Meridian for sure but I think the whole line had them and they screw in.

Romet of Italy (You have to pull the nib)

Bexley BX802 screws in but I think there are others

No, it's not.

Schmidt just does the assembly work of nib/feed/nib housing, but Schmidt does not make nibs. Schmidt buys nibs from JoWo and Bock, but we can't always be sure from which one the nib in a given "Schmidt" nib unit really is. But it's definitely not from Schmidt...

Greetings,

Michael

If I'm not mistaken, Edison and Bexley use these nib units but usually with their own logos engraved. See Brian Gray's (of Edison Pen Co.) Meister Nibs site for examples of "IPG" nibs and those he has customized.

Correct.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
