Montblanc Watches

There are lots of great aftermarket straps out there. Just find one you like and make sure you spend the extra few bucks to get some high quality spring pens to go with the strap. Many people re-use the old ones and it's the weakest link in the bracelet/strap to case connection.

Good luck! Let us see what you end up with!

My watches are not MB. My prized & loved pens are.

Oh and for the "nothing is real without a photo to back it up" brigade :

MB watches resale values would concern me. Anyone with knowledge on this then please chime in.

OK, you asked. MB is come late to the watch game. They have no history, no chops as watchmakers. Their watches are farmed out and created by others. Brands like Rolex, Patek, Jaeger have 100 year plus history in development of style, mechanism, utility. Getting a MB "branded" watch is buying a cheap watch with an expensive brand on it. If you have a love for all things MB, the pens, inks, paper, leather goods, cufflinks, etc. by all means buy the watch if you want to, no one can tell you where or where not to spend your own money.

If you have an interest in watches, go to one of the fora and begin to do some research. I did, some years ago, and ended up with a couple nice swatches, a Marathon SAR (Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue), a couple skeleton watches (they're like demonstrators - you can see inside) and one Rolex that my wife gave me for our 10th wedding anniversary. Of the dozen watches I acquired over as many years, I still wear about 3. I've run through my watch phase.

Buying a MB watch would be like having an interest in classic pens and knowing only Conway-Stewart (modern), Bexley, and a few other house names that have absolutely no connection to the classic days of black hard rubber pens, green eye shades and sleeve protectors.

OK, rant over. Just my 2 cents

"how do I know what I think until I write it down?"

True at the outset, but the reality for some time now has been something quite amazingly different.

What "Mr.Deckard B26354" said

:D

MB purchased a long standing watchmaking firm. This doesn't make MB a long standing firm but MB purchased expertise and IP that goes back many years - this in my eyes, makes MB a fair participant in watches, even if I still really only think of them primarily as a pen maker.

The resale isn't TERRIBLE with their lower end watches. With that said, I would never pay retail for one, and hopefully no one else would. They hold their value better than Baume et Mercier watches which in my opinion is one of the best starter watches for the money.

My MB Star

Retail:~$1800

What I paid: $400

Sold for: $725

My MB Profile

Retail:~$2000

What I paid: $412

Sold For: $675

My current Sport

Retail: ~$2150

What I paid: $500

Others on ebay have sold for between $625-850

Thanks for the info. As you state these are the lower end value watches, which you bought in at great prices, but I am curious to know if the higher end watches take the same kicking. I suspect so.

I am scratching my head a bit when you say about not paying retail prices. How do I not? and if you had, even on the watches listed, those are big loses in my book.

Hi all,

I'm the happy owner of an automatic MB "Timewalker" for more than a year.

Fantastic watch, keeps time perfectly - only 10 seconds delay per month - much better as my Omega's and my Breitling !
