Mont Blanc Le Grand Meisterstuck Ballpoint Help Needed

Hi

I recently purchased 2 mont blanc le grand meisterstuck ballpoint pens. Both pens were pre-owned and not brought from a AD. The first pen is a standard le grand ballpoint and the second pen is a le grand special 75th anniversary edition ballpoint. Could someone please look at the pictures that ive posted and determine if both of my ballpoint pens are 100% genuine. Too many fakes flying around on the internet. My only concern is that the lower plastic resin part of the pen from the 75th special edition, doesnt have the gold metal ring at the end. Also it has a rattling sound inside. Looks like the spring is loose inside. I dont know if this was intentionally done on the 75th special edition version. Any advice or help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I've have owned two 161 LeGrand Ballpoints. Black and Bordeaux, the Bordeaux I still have. Your pens look genuine to me. The difference in the barrel threads is, I'm pretty sure an age thing, date of manufacture. Does it rattle with refill in? If it rattles without it, it's most likely the spring. Hope this helps. Paul

I shall apologise in advance for being no help at all!

All I have found out so far is that it is a '161' Special Edition with model number 75353. I have not yet found any photos that show the detail you refer to nor do I have a 161 of my own to compare (I should have bid for that one last week :bonk: )

But I guess you knew all that.

I doubt that MB would deliberately build a rattle into a pen. Is the spring broken?

Regards

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

Hi

Thank you for the reply and help. The 75th special edition version was released in 1999. I dont know which year the standard version is from. It doesnt rattle with the refill in, but the refill sticks out slightly more out of the pen in the writing position, compared to the other pen.

ive seen different versions of the barrel threads on ebay for this same pen:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/STYLO-BILLE-MONTBLANC-MEISTERSTUCK-75e-ANNIVERSAIRE-PASSION-AND-SOUL-BALLPOINT-/270907159709?pt=FR_YO_Bijoux_Stylos&hash=item3f1353349d#ht_3564wt_1156

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-MONTBLANC-75th-Years-Passion-and-Soul-Le-Grand-N-161-Kugelschreiber-BP-/130573323490?pt=DE_Haus_Garten_HomeOffice_Schreibgeräte&hash=item1e66c6cce2#ht_5369wt_689

Its weird to see 2 different versions of the thread barrel avaliable for the same pen.

Thank you for the reply. If you meant about the 161 on ebay, i brought it. no one else bidded on it. initially it was listed as the limited 1924 version and i got very excited. i told the seller to send me pictures of the montblanc snow cap logo and it turned out to be the standard special edition version :(. I was hoping to see the mother of pearl logo :) anyway im happy with pen.

Hi mosh

I have just checked my Mb Le Grand 75th anniversary ballpoint and mine doesn't have the insert with the exposed gold ring.

As a test I shook mine quite hard and heard a slight rattle. It can only be the spring.

I will ask Montblanc about this rattle and whether or not there were 2 types tomorrow as I would also like to know the answer

Thats brilliant news. Thanks so much. Thats a huge relief. The pen works perfectly and only rattles when the refill is removed. Do let me know what montblanc say. Thank you for your help. You learn something new about montblanc each day. :)

My spring is definitely loose in the barrel. It isn't loose in the barrel on any of my other Mb ballpoints, so I suspect this is the problem.

In your 2 examples, I wouldn't buy the first one with the hole through it's snowcap and the wrong box and that's the one with the different insert. At least our 2 examples both have the same insert.

As we both have the same issue, its nothing to worry about. All my other montblanc ballpoints dont rattle either. So its difinately a common problem with this version of the pen. This pen would look so cool with the mother of pearl snowcap. The limited editon version if this pen is very very expensive, so an aftermarket mother of pearl snowcap would be awesome :) Unfortunately no one has managed to do it successfully so far, apart from montblanc themselves.

I also have a LE 161. I will check mine and post my findings tomorrow.

You have Limited edition version? The one with the mother of pearl snow cap? wow. That would be great if you could do that. Thanks

Checked my pen. Same as with your SE the brass screw fitting on the resin grip section of my pen does not extend all the way out either. So, your SE is 100% legit.thumbup.gif

  • 8 months later...

Hi,

I'm Fabrizio from Italy.

Last month I bought a Meisterstuck ballpoint pen and I'm facing with the same problem described here.

The pen rattles I got in touch with Mont Blanc customer care and they told me to go back to reseller.

I did and tested at least five different Meisterstuck ballpoint pen all of those rattling...it's boring.

Anyone else is facing with this such a problem?

With Regards,

Fabrizio

I also replaced the refill

This is an old thread, sorry, but I just bought a Montblanc Classique ballpoint from a legit ebay seller and--it rattles. The spring cannot be removed on these pens, so there's no tinkering with it. It is going back. I am pretty sure the pen is authentic, but it rattles like a cheapo. Is MB quality control failing, or does MB just not make good ballpoints and pencils compared to their wonderful fountainpens?

I thought all springs could be removed. I have a few MB ballpoint and all of them have removable springs. I used a toothpick and push the spring out from the tip of the pen.

Thanks so much for the responses. I seem unable to upload a photo, but I can tell you it is a Classique with platinum trim. Yes, I've heard that Broad refills might work better in this pen, I suppose because they are thicker and rattle less. This Classique looks a little larger than the slimmer ones I've seen; it was part of a gift package that included a MB single-pen pouch--maybe these were lower-quality buget versions?

Montblanc does not produce lower-quality budget pens.

Well, Meiers, I'll tell ya--this rattling MB ballpoint does not feel like a $300 plus pen. My Sheaffer Heritage ballpoint is vastly superior and feels more solid; in fact, even my inexpensive Cross Century and Parker Jotter win over this overpriced bauble in terms of function and overall sturdiness.
