Pilot Petit Is Back In Three Versions

Recommended Posts

I just broke the fill sac in one of my little Pilot Petits. I saw where folks here had tried making an eyedropper out of them with mixed results. Before I tried that, I decided to try to find another one. I was not having any luck finding any in the United States until I found a couple of blog posts about the new versions.

(No, I am not endorsing anybody.)

A place called jetpens.com has the three versions: Pilot Petit 1, the fountain pen that looks like the original; the Pilot Petit 2, "sign" pen like a hard tipped marker; and the Pilot Petit 3, a "fude" brush type pen.

They're amazingly cheap!

So, I have to know if anybody here has tried them yet? Are they as good as our beloved original?

The newer Petits aren't much different than the original. The body has a couple little nubs that allow the cap to snap on, which makes it easier to post. The feed is no longer the same color as the body, and there are a lot less body and ink color choices now (RIP, Cobalt Blue).

I'm also a big fan of these little guys. They write far smoother than you'd expect for such a cheap pen.

My little Petit1's are my experiment pens. If they weren't so small, I'd keep them in my purse.

I only saw three less appealing colors plus an opaque white. However, it looks like the two bloggers got some interesting, bright, translucent colors. I like my red ones, but sure would have loved a cobalt blue.

I have three Petit 1s and a couple of Petit 3s. While they don't have the variation of some of my other "pocket" pens (Sailor Minis or Kaweco Sports), they are fountain pens that I can take anywhere with me. Originally, I got the Petit 3s to see how they compared with my brush pen. The "nib" isn't as long as my brush pen and it required a lot more pressure to write with a thicker line than my brush pen. They are fun to write with and you can't beat the price.

I bought a white Petit1 from Jetpens a while back... it (along with the Platinum Preppy) got me hooked into the fountain pen world! It's cheap but it still writes pretty well. Jetpens sells a bunch of colors, but I'm planning to just refill old cartridges with inks of my choosing with a syringe. I never had an old Petit1 to compare to though.

As for Jetpens.. I have no affiliation but I have ordered from them about three times and never had any problem with them.

I've tried the new and old Petit1. Basically, if you liked the old one, you'll like the new model even more. It somehow seems more refined. I recommend picking one up! It recently replaced my Lamy 2k as my take-to-uni pen!

I love them - especially the fact that they now come in purple. I just wish we still had purple cartridges for them!

I bought a couple of purple Petit1s from JetPens a while back and they are my favorite fountain pens; in fact, I liked them so much I bought a couple more white pens. If you visit Maido Stationery (http://www.mymaido.com/), they seem to have a wider selection of ink colors available, including purple. I just snagged a bunch of cartridges from them in colors that weren't available from JetPens, but I don't know if they are current inks or old stock that's been discontinued. Although they have a more limited product selection in general than JetPens, they have a ton of Petit1 pens and inks. They also have wonderful customer service (no relationship other than being a happy customer).

EDIT: I just checked the site and they are now out of the violet and several of the other inks I ordered.

I was just about to say, if we can't buy purple cartridges, we can surely make purple after the first one of any color gets used up.

Okay, I can't wait anymore. I'm just going to have to buy all three. There's just hot pink, Vaseline greenish, purple, and white at Jetpens. I think I'll go for the three colors.

Maybe I'll practice nib alterations on my old, red Petit 1 if the cartridges don't work on it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
