What Chinese Pens Are You Using Today?

Sorry, Ian the Jock - you are right.

I mix up the Baoer 3035 (unhooded - even on the picture I linked to...) for my daughter and the Jinhao 126 I bought for another daughter. Both flighters, available in black or chrome. Similar writers (fine, fairly wet, smooth). But very different looks.

The silver version looks better in the flesh then on the screen. I chose it for durability reasons (schoolpen: no cracks, no paint chipping). It looks more sophisticated and better finished then my Parker 25.

It's a Jinhao X450 black/gold with ESSRI today.

Next week it's one of the new 159s in yellow or orange - still have to decide ;-)

Man, a Jinhao Silver Dragon with BSB....wow. The pinnacle of vulgarity and fun! Love it.

I am just boring with my TWSBI 580 (American Commemorative) with BSB in it (hail to Nathan Tardiff). But, I love my TWSBIs, they are fabulous pens.

I'm struggling to get the light to catch the pen to show off it's lovely colour, the dark red and red/yellowy lava which changes with the light just doesn't show up at all.

It really is a lovely looking pen, and very well made too.

p.s. Just noticed I wrote Jinho instead of Jinhao....

No, I didn't, that's it as it came.

Wee. That is nice.

I don't like fine nibs though - that's the main reason why I don't get more Chinese pens.

And that I'm broke and a skinflint, but ignoring those reasons...

The pearlescent red is a great effect. Is it a painted barrel or pearlescent resin? (Presume the former)

Regards,

Richard

Never heard of Huahong - so double glad you show us one!

Made me look at ebay, where I find this one. Richard, red marbled celluloid is what they call it on this pen, so probably they do more then just paint. Looks promising!

Richard

Its defo not paint. It has a depth to it if you know what I mean, probably laquered resin or something.

I didn't buy it as a huahong, it was listed as a senior ss21, and after buying it I contacted the shop to ask who made it (which was then obvious when it arrived).

Its stated as a medium but is finer than I normally like, but it's certainly not needle fine, as you can see in the writing sample.

It feels like a very substantial, well made pen, and writes very well, as well as looking great.

Im using my phone just now, but I'll get on my lappy later and get the details of the shop.

It was nowhere near $27 though, more like 7.

Ill also take it out with me (going out with the dog) and see if I can get a better pic on my phone in bright sunlight.

Ok, the pictures are pretty poor, but I was trying to show the difference when the light hits it.

In normal light it just looks like a dark red/burgundy pen.

Thats the one.

I've bought a few pens from him.

I bought one called a fuguilong which looks nice, but in the flesh it's nowhere near as good quality as the huahong.

Some of the other pens look really nice, and the prices!!!!

The HuaHong ss21 as it's listed, is WELL WORTH A PUNT.

I'm quite enjoying trying out these "other" manufacturers pens, and have another couple on their way.

Let's be honest....£1.07 for a decent looking fountain pen that works well is just silly, I mean what else can you buy for a £1.

It's also quite fun that there is no clue who makes the pens from this supplier until they arrive.....and you think WHO?....and the search for info begins....all good fun.

I've been using this pen all day (among others) and It's been writing away nicely with nothing untoward to report.

I wonder who makes the next 2 that I've ordered..

concerns me a bit just exactly *how* these pens can be sold so cheaply..

I remember someone explaining "how" on here a while back.

It's something to do with the value of "foreign" money being brought into the Chinese coffers from outside China, and the products being produced on such a scale that they cost very little to make, yet bring valuable "foreign" currency into the economy which is very good.

Or something along those lines.

It isn't something that would "concern me".

If China/Chinese vendors are happy to sell at such low prices, then I'm more than happy to buy. ;)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
