Pen Parts Scam

Hi, I'm a pretty savvy buyer and have never got scammed in 12 years buying and selling many 1,000 of pens online but had a close one recently. Thought I'd tell the story in case anyone else is contacted by the guy. I guy in Peru named Omar contacted me about a bunch of parts he had for sale. He saw my ad on FPN. A lot of good NOS 45 steel nibs and various NOS and used parts. It was not big money, only $280.00 but was a good deal for some stuff I could use. He sent good photos and gave what I Googled as good contact info. He had a good Paypal account and an FPN account. He would send EMS so it is traceable. He communicated well. Seemed like a minor risk and it wasn't much so I sent him the money via Paypal. The next day he sent me the EMS tracking number and asked if I could send $19.00 for the actual shipping cost which I did. I waited 4 days and check the tracking number and it didn't work on either the US or Peru post office site. I waited 4 more days and tried again. Since it didn't work I send him 4 notes over the next week asking the status and never heard from him. So after a bit over 2 weeks I put in a dispute with Paypal and when he didn't answer after 10 days it was made a claim. About 2 weeks later Paypal recovered the money and refunded it to my account. They are very good about that usually. So I had no loss at all. Just a heads up in case he contacts anyone else. cheers, BOB

Same guy got me a few years ago. He actually delivered a group of parts purchased through ebay and then contacted me about a second group of parts. Good pictures, accurate descriptions, etc. I paid, then got a request for the shipping costs. He stalled me off for a long time then stopped responding to email. This was back when PayPal didn't offer much in protection so I was out a few hundred.

If he is here on FPN he should certainly be banned.

Name & shame him Bob.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
