Do You Have Dreams About Pens?

Hello,

as i consider dreams to be part of my normal everyday life i sometimes write the best of them on paper just after awakening. I had this dream about 5-6 times:

(the details of dream change, the setting is everytime very similar)

I am in old mansion built in art nouveau style. The house is always located in big untended garden. There are some people with me, sometimes we have dinner or a decent afternoon tea party. It is unclear who is the owner of the mansion, but i am there as guest. Possibly everyone is. After some time being with other people i suddenly decide to enter the room nextdoor. It is always a kind of study-room. Interior is very impressive and fascinating, nothing but original period furniture, paintings, many bookcases loaded with old books etc. It has completely vintage feeling and it seems to be deserted by its owner very long time ago. Nothing snob at all. An abandoned work place of a busy man. I am alone in study-room and i begin to observe closely what is on writing desk. I see some beautiful old fountain pens. Then i open desk drawers and i see a collection of dreams, dozens of pens of various types, unusual colors, some in gold or in silver. Those pens are left there by the lost owner of the house. I feel i have permission to take them all. In dream there is always sequence when i closely examine them. They look like somewhat Kroutl pens, Kawecos (Sport set is often there) and Barclay pens. There are also some strange and enormly good looking pens with emailed colors on metal parts. Usually i wake up after having taken the pens. Everytime i am sad to have not them once awake.

I had this dream for the 1st time in very young age (at 10 -12 years I was FPs "addict" having small collection of Centropens as kid:). The last time i had these FP dreams was some time before i discovered this FP forum. After 2009 i had not this dream again. (I hope to dream it again). But fortunatelly i do have growing collection since and i have learnt much about pens. (i have known almost nothin before

In fact in my theory, in this dream i see my future house. It may be possible as i hope to buy an antique one later this year, so i will be looking for something similar to the romantic house from my dreams. The collection from dream is now pretty well transforming into the real one. Dreams may come true! If one wants :D It works.

The dream collection in abandoned house - in fact it may be inspired by my great grand-father´s one. He was respected painter who loved nice things. I remember to have ruined his attractivelly looking luxury pens as 5-6 year old kid, some years after his death. As my Grand mother said me, they were all the most expensive prewar Bohemian pens on market. Apparently some of them were gifts from clients, friends. Well,...i also remember my punishment :bawl:

My great grand-father´s pens were in desk in the room next the open door in center of the image:

Interesting topic. Unfortunately (I think), I don't dream of fountain pens; I do, however, sometimes go to sleep or wake up thinking about them.

Sometimes i cannot fall asleep because of thinking of fountain pens. But it is more likely pleasant.

I once had a dream about my baby daughter breaking the nib on my 51 Special. Half awake, I realised it couldn't be possible and calmed down. I literally keep my pens locked up.

Other than that, I also have a dream that keeps repeating from time to time, but it doesn't involve pens.

I have had only one dream about pens. Very recently in fact.

While taking my family to another state for a vacation, We decided to stop in a quaint village for lunch. After lunch, we discovered a small antique shop down the road. I was surprised to see some bins out front filled with pens from the 80's and 90's with a sign that said,"$5 each". Another sign said that more pens were inside.

Inside were more bins with vintage Parkers, Watermans, Wahl and other top penmakers. All were marked, "$20 to $40" and "Make Offer". I asked the owner what he wanted for all of them. After he mentioned the price, I bought them all.

It doesn't take much to interpret this dream but I'm not that greedy. Really I'm not.

Not that I can remember, other than two nights ago. Part of my dream involved buying two mint Esterbrook Petite Pak sets from a small (around a dining table) auction hosted by Fidel Castro. I won the lot at $300, but somehow all my cash turned into Canadian bills, which were not accepted. I'm doubly glad it was only a dream.

Regards, greg

Don't feel bad. I'm old; I'm meh about most things.

Hi,

it is funny how you are attracted by the shop in your dream: first cheap pens...., once inside, the paradise :) I am sure i would buy them all,too

Thanks!

(I see you live in the "lovecraftian" area of USA! You have nice dream for that region:)

Wow, that is completely surrealist dream!

Fidel Castro´s auction house selling Esterbrooks! That´s really funny :roflmho:

Hi,

Precious pens better be locked up if children are nearby, that´s for sure.

Maybe in future you will have dream about losing the key of FP´s place:)

Highly unlikely in reality, but I once dreamed that I was offered an opportunity by a friend to buy a secondhand MB 149 for USD100.

I was in a ballroom, among people who were dancing, it was all quite posh. Then it all became empty of people, and the lights went off. The place was now dark and dusty. I put a complain: I took my Lamy Safari and started to write the complain on the floor. I had to lay down to write it, but as i did this, the Lamy started to grow and to write on its own, dragging me around like as if i were something to clean the floor with. At the end, when i was able to stand-up, i could see what my Lamy had written: Strange simbols all over the dance floor. I thought "Uhm, that Kung Te-Cheng has more to it than what meets the eyes..."

I woke uo trying to draw those simbols i could remember, but the dream started to fade extreemely fast, and by the time i manage to get a pen, it was all gone...

They appear as items in the background regularly, since they're a standard part of my life, but there was one in which I found a Pelikan in a blister-pack at a vast crafters' big box store. "At last, a Pelikan for my collection," said dream-me, but the underlying intelligence that was almost aware that it was dreaming wondered slightly at the Green Army Man plastic of the giant barrel, as big as a C-cell flashlight.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Of course, the answer is to keep a pen on your nightstand....

It happends regularly. One of the pen dreams I remember the most is that while restoring a pen, I had found a crack in the nib. So I went to a burning abandonned town in a desert and met Greg Minuskin in a basement. He took the nib, and told me to sit in the waiting room. When he came back, he had ground the nib so fine that the tines looked like two inch-long golden hairs, and he said "Yeah, I added a tiny bit of flex.", while the tines started to bend down under their own weight...

Yeah, my dreams are complete nonsense...

After reading this topic, I recently had a dream where Noodler's decided to open up a giant department store at a local mall. I went in and saw aisles after aisles of Noodler's inks ready to be uncapped for sampling...the lower shelves had the same colors in bigger sizes, like 16oz or 32oz jugs. There was even a separate aisle dedicated to selling gallon jugs of J.B. Pen Flush. I was dragging my non FP friends through the stores and having a great time poring over the shelves when I saw a section selling travel-friendly pen knapsacks...didn't know how that worked, so I went to check it out and woke up. Darn.

These accounts of dreams are certainly quite interesting to read, but personally I believe most dreams are just rambling nonsense or an amalgamation of subconscious thoughts/fears/desires.

No, I can't say I've had a dream about fountain pens (yet). Actually I rarely have dreams, so maybe there's something wrong with me! ;) Maybe now, after thinking about dreaming about fountain pens, tonight could be the night. :)

I often dream of fountain pens lately. Two stand out including one in which my Parker 45s got fat. The other has recurred a few times. In this one, I work in a stylish, dark pen boutique with many colorful inks on display where customers can try them. Employees are not allowed to try them, so I urged every customer to try out inks just so I can see them on paper. If anyone bought a pen, I insisted they fill it up and write and draw with it. Weird. I'm not lacking in ink, really!

Don't you wish we could use our pens to write on the Fountain Pen Network Fora?

Interesting it happened in abandonned town in a desert. It´s like in some western movie.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
