What To Buy From Barnes And Noble?

Well the title says it all, I got a gc for BN in the amount of $25. I would like a new journal, something nice and not a Moleskine. Does anyone know what journals they carry that are FP friendly paper? Maybe one of their leather journals of half sheet size.

Or maybe they carry some cool writing related object you could suggest?

I'm fond of the Ecosystem notebooks they sell there; paper is more fountain pen friendly by a long shot than Moleskine paper, and the bindings seem to be more tolerant of rough handling and bouncing around in a backpack.

I bought a 8x11 Picadilly sketch pad (top spiral bound, blank, almost card stock) at B&N for ~$7 on sale. Paper is great - absolutely no bleed through or ghosting. Affordable and portable. I use it every day!

Depending on the size of the store in your area, you may want to drive around a bit.

B&N once had a nice line of refillable journal covers and, of course, refills. I bought a few for gifts back in the 1990s. From what I can tell the refills on the shelf at my B&N are all tha remains from that era. They no longer stock, nor list as available, the fine leather covers wich came in conventional book and wrap- around styles.

You might buy yourself a nice book to READ, something you would not have ordinarily considered because of the expense. What about their leather-bound classics series? Sometimes they're in a "buy 2 get one free" promotion.

Resist the temptation to buy molies but the Ecosystem series is a great line of products. I have a couple of the pocket notebooks.

I ride a recumbent, I play go, I use Macintosh so of course I use a fountain pen.

I went to my B&N yesterday and they were having a big sale on Christmas-themed stuff (cards, stationery, books, etc), so you can stock up on those for next year if you want. I like their stationery sets too--just bought a lovely set made in Italy yesterday, with watercolor roses, to write greetings on for my family for New Year's.

Then again, since it's a bookstore, I agree with the earlier poster who suggested buying books. And Ecosystem > Moleskine for consistency.

I have been looking at ebooks, since the giftcard was a companion gift to the Nook Color I got from my wife, but I have downloaded enough free books to keep me busy for a while. I figured a nice leather jounal wouldn't be a bad idea. Although they do carry Crane papers, so I might pick through that at my local store.

These are awesome and totally FP friendly - however they are not refillable. But at that price and so much paper who cares? They are the best.

+1 I have one of these and they are very nice.

And a thread which smodak started :)

Yup - Information on that thread made me buy couple of these. My 10 year old daughter (also a FP user) snatched the smaller one from me leaving only the larger one. I just love it feels, smells and behaves with FPs. Excellent item!~~

These are great and they come in several sizes Basic Black journal I have them lined and unlined.

Sorry I don't mean to be sarcastic but the fact that I recommended them, and I'm in this forum, the answer is obvious to me, but yes they are for the pen and ink combinations I use, such as noodlers to be FP friendly. .

my B&N at Easton has a double sided display 15-20' feet long of all kinds of leather journals.. also a nice size display of MS and a nice display of Ecosystems. I have settled on Ecosystems as my go to journals. I really like the micro-perforation for when I make a mess. plus they fit the Saddleback Med journal cover perfectly.

when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

I am a huge fan of this Brown Leather Wrap Traveler's Journal. It is refillable and the paper is of good quality and works well with most of my FP's. The refill page is here.

I have used mine for years. I actually ended up just removing the leather strap because it got in the way. The back flap has slots for two pens.

Nice!!! It looks really cool. I will buy this instead of the Black Basic Journal. Love the look and then it has slots for pens to boot. Wish these were in stock online.

I don't know why they don't stock them online, but the retail stores definitely carry them. I bought my several years ago but a buddy of mine at my office just picked up one at a local (Houston) B&N two months ago.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
