Do not buy Lidl's United Office paper, by Pro Na GmbH

A worlds worse '90 g' Buetten/hammerslag or verge paper. Shocking bad.

This is a warning for those who live in Germany or where there is a Lidl. Like England.

(Lidl is a large discounter supermarket chain.)

A couple of months ago I bought the competition of Lidl...Aldi paper by Zebra, under the name of Rex Office. It was very good paper (set of 5 papers) for 1.99 or could be 2.99 each. They are rated in my test of 46 papers thread.

This Lidl paper cost € 1.69 my wife thinks. She saw the paper and bought thankfully only one pack of 75 sheets.

It feathers and bleeds through on both sides.

I have just put it on top of my printer paper. It is worthless for writing with a fountain pen....absolutely the worst paper I ever bought since coming back to fountain pens.

It is an ink jet/laser printer paper masquerading as a fountain pen paper.

Well there it gives one a better looking paper than normal copy paper. Looks good...for that, and that only.

How bad is it...BBQ starter paper or printer nothing else...well I'm sure you can write on it with a ball point.

I could fold it in quarters and put it under my tea cup.

If it's sufficiently soft, I have another suggestion... but perhaps that suggestion might be verboten on this polite forum.

No, it's not quit smooth enough to be French Paper nor rough enough to be real old fashioned German paper...

Old Germans use to be proud of their more than stable rougher than a cob paper.

I will admit much from America is no where as good as it is replacing in Germany with the Globalization.

With that type of paper, I'm so glad the Germans could afford fly to to America for a week end's shopping or a couple of weeks of vacation and get properly spoiled.

American toilet paper is the best the world has ever seen.

It's still nice to know American is still number 1, at something.

Yep one don't need to stuff one's suit case when going to Germany...

The French don't allow that sort of American influence. :happyberet: So if you are going to France or a few other places in Europe bring a roll or two of supplies.

A wise traveler is always Charming. ;)

They do sell Charming in Germany.

Oreo's too, everywhere now. Two years ago, I had to wait for this or that Chain to offer American week....now they even got fake generic Oreo's. :roflmho:

It's still nice to know American is still number 1, at something.

Guess the reason is because it is the only thing still manufactured in the US and not outsourced to China. :roflmho: It has been ages since I bounced into something with a "Made in U.S.A." written on it. I remember a Hercules video card for the original IBM PC, dating back to 1985, a Paper Mate pen more or less the same age and a pair of Timberland shoes, about the end of the last century. Now it is "designed in the US, manufactured in somewherebutcheapland".

Thank you gor the good laugh :roflmho:

It is true, our bog roll technology is years ahead of the rest of the world.

:roflmho: But it is still unsuitable for fountain pen use. :roflmho:

The best toilet paper in the world are scented alpaca fibers woven with genuine 18k gold threads. No streak and leaks and oh so soft. Another alternative is air dried sturgeon skin. When I was in Indonesia, a small hotel offers freshly cut banana leaves. All of these are better than Charming.

The wife went shopping and saw paper she'd not bought me so she bought me some 120 g Linen effect and some 90 g laid paper from Lidl's United Office paper, by Pro Na GmbH.

Back to the paper report, 120 G linen effect paper should not bleed through, and it feathered badly.

It became copy paper like the verge...defiantly can't write with a fountain pen on either.

That is what happens when the Boss writes with a ball point...one sells ball point printer paper.

Had the Boss used a fountain pen, he'd of course checked out the paper and found it poor.

The 90 g laid paper is ok. It goes into the scribble on pile of papers.

Maybe you can use it as blotter paper? Does it absorb quickly enough?

Blotter will not help against feathering. Feathering happens too fast.

IMO good paper should not feather, or you should not see feathering unless looking under magnification.

I use a 2.8X mag 4x3 inch magnifying glass to look close.

I use Bare Eye Feathering - BEF to say I don't see any, or a little or sure do see the feathering; when the paper is in writing position.

There are ink and paper combos where you see some feather under magnification that you don't notice if the paper is in the writing position. = no-BEF.

In that Lidl and Aldi are in major competition, and often have the same product at the same price, one would expect Lidl to keep up with the Aldi Jones.

It did not.

Aldi's Rex Office from Zebra was perfect on the marbled 90 g, and the Blueten/Verge 90 was ok.

The Laid 90g the Lenin 120 was adequate, but not as good as the Marbled paper.

They are a full class higher than Lidl.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
