I see some people pretending to be bingers that are just wannabes; lists without any Montblancs, Nakayas, Danitrios, etc.

Come on. If you want to play, you gotta kick it up a notch.

I'll bite. Each group below was acquired over 3 days (I don't buy pens on the Sunday of the show).

I just boght an Eco-roller and a hundred dollars worth of ink...I could have pit that money towards a new ebony anello classic...what was I thinking?!

I suppose you can never have too much ink.

WTB: the following GvF-C classic FPs (pref. B or OB nib) or rollerballs: platinum plated, gold plated, solid sterling silver, ebony anello and gold anello, PM me!

(also interested in most other GvF-C products in general, i.e any writing tools, leather goods, advertising/packaging)

I'm on a binge right now. I recently fell in love with vintage flex and I'm buying one after another, hoping to get a better flex writing experience.

Maybe it's my flexy writing skills (or lack thereof), not the pen :headsmack:

Can you tell me what you've found good so far. I'm VERY intested in getting a vintage flex pen but it seems to have become a bit of a buzz word added to eBay auctions so I'm loathe to just buy one without a personal reccomendation. I'm happy to pay what it costs to get a nice one but I'm nit sure which way to go with it.

My ahab was a distinct failure, I'm not complaining I knew what I was getting into, I just want a pen ths will make my writing look like this without any sort or practice or effort on my part :) :

Ok. I'll Bite too. Since mid December I've picked up a Hemingway, Schiller, 149, 144 sterling barley, 146 sterling barley, Solti (just because I like the nib and it writes nicely) and various other assorted Visconti, Tacci, Vintage Pelikans, NEW pelikans (M1000, M600) and a lovely Parker Duofold Jnr 1929. I don't count the TWSBIs, Lamys and Pilots, they're just ink fodder. So there's my start.

Sorry to say this, but your handwriting will not look like that without significant practice! I have a pretty good vintage Waterman flex, and this is still the best I can pull off:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/214667-hello-from-texas-and-some-pictures-of-my-pens/

If you are still interested in flex nibs, I brought my Waterman from Mauricio at VintagePen.net. I would highly recommend buying from him. He is very knowledgeable and takes time to educate you on what you are buying.

A flex nib is very hard to control-- I too thought that I could get a flex nib and my magically get my handwriting to look beautiful, but sadly that was not true. I actually found that I could get better, neater handwriting using an italic nib because there were less variables to control. No need to worry about how hard you are flexing the nib to get line width variation with italics, and that frees up the mind to concentrate on forming perfectly sloped letter forms. At least, that has been my experience.

I'm not trying to dissuade you from getting a flex nib. It is one of the most fun I've ever had writing, and the bounciness of the nib is something that an italic cannot duplicate. However, I wanted to give you realistic expectations of what to expect. Flex nibs may not make your handwriting look nice unless you put in time and effort practicing (mine actually did the opposite when I first got it-- made my handwriting look really ugly), but they are sure fun to write with.

Since we're posting videos of flex nibs, here's my

When you add it all up from December I've gone nearly as mad as you : 5 Graf Von Faber-castell classics (ebony FP, platinum plate FP, grenadilla FP, ivory anello FP and RB); GvF-C black resin guilloche BP; Visconti homo sapiens RB; pelikan m600 RB; Visconti Eco-roller; cross Townsend FP. It seems like more than I thought I had bought when I list them all together like that...

Also 3 mntblancs I got in a lot that turned out to be fake. people who sell fake Montblancs are racking up a karmic debt thats going to be very hard to repay. not because of the money they take off unsuspecting people like me but because of the people it turns off from using and collecting fine writing tools.

And like you a handful of safaris and ahabs etc.

I think I'm getting close to a point where I have most of the pens I've actually been pining for, there's a few left on the list (a GvF-C pernambuco intuition with a B nib, a 149, an m1000 or mebbe an m800 and the last 4 styles of classics left i dont own ) then I won't be buying pens every week unless I see a bargain I just cant pass up.

Also thanks for the help HK, I know my handwriting wont be instantly be improved, I really just wan to play and practice with a flex. Your right about the italics though, I love the way my handwriting looks with my lamy BI nibs. I think I'm ready to try something new though, I'll have a look at vintage pen. Thanks again.

Me, too! Ha ha ha! Made me laugh this morning - thanks!

P.S. I watched the video. The calligraphy is gorgeous. It just takes such a long time to form each letter....

Yep, and I need to stop! In the past Month I've acquired a Twsbi 540, Sheaffer TM Admiral, Esterbrook J in Green, and a handfull of neat ball points to loan out at work when people want to borrow my pens!

That is nothing compaired to the order I just placed today with Brian Gray. Pearl in Ebonite Red/Black with a bulb filler and window!

That will be all for a long time! I'll also be hitting up the classified to sell some things to fund that purchace!

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I do binge, in a way. What I do is fill up my cart with absolutely everything I want: pens, new and vintage; and inks for my new pens, every color, every shade I've ever dreamed of. And then... I hit the Delete button... it's not as much fun as the real thing, but it has been strangely satisfying. I'm still trying to convince myself!

Oooho... I thought I was seriously pen sick but this thread makes me feel so much better. I have never spent more than a hundred euro a month, mostly through bargain hunting for vintage pens on the 'bay or at flea markets. After all in Turin, near the Aurora plant is easy to find battered down vintage 88s for ten bucks and as a bonus they are easy and fun to restore.

Edit: except that time when I bought a new Kullock pen. And that other time I bought a Talentum. And the Starwalker. And the RRHR 42v from Mauricio. And ....

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
