Alfred Hitchcock Pen

The Atlanta boutique invited Daniel and me to come check out the new Hitchcock dedication pen. Very, very nice! We saw both the $27,000 limitation of 80 version, and the $3,200 limitation of 3,000 (don't quote me on that price). The weight is good; heavy, but not overly so. The detailing on the stripes is fascinating in person -- it appears to be two layers of striping separated by a layer of resin, giving it a wavy, hypnotic effect that is a perfect tribute to Vertigo. The pens are in Atlanta for two days only, before being shipped off to another location. Here are some photos. You'll notice that these are stamped up pretty heavily with "Sample", and "stainless steel" stamped on the clip. This will not be on the production pens, of course. I apologize for the cellphone quality.

These are set to hit stores in January, I'm told.

And the best part of the affair... Henri's bakery shortbread cookies bearing Hitchcock's signature caricature doodle, as seen on the nib.

Excellent pictures. Thanks for sharing. I saw glossary pictures of both pens in a nice presentation quality book at my local boutique this past weekend.

Barrel looks close to a LeGrand size. I believe the "regular" pen to limited to 3,000 pieces.

Yes, just a bit smaller than a LeGrand. And you are totally right on the limitation -- correction made. :headsmack:

Not often I'd say this but I prefer the 3000 version to the 80 one. I usually prefer the more limited ones but I prefer the black/gray barrel to the red.

same feeling here, I think the black/grey one can capture/present the intent of mystery better

I absolutely adore the nib!

@ Meghan:

Just looked at the pictures once again.

Have you noticed that the capring of the red one has a look-a-like motif of your own ring?

not my kind of pen sorry

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Er no. Doesnt strike me as one of their best efforts in my opinion. Looks like a drunken Visconti has bred with a Fat Boy rollerball.

In your hand it looks like a very large pen, 149 or bigger? I actually like the red one more. Love the clip in the form of a Knife!

thanks for sharing the pictures.

however, in my opinion...i feel a little underwhelmed with the hitchcock series and agree with Pen Nuts' statement.

Thanks for sharing, interesting pen and really nice pictures!

I have to say though, it doesn't look like a £2k pen ... the extra thickness and different texture of metal parts on the clip makes it look a bit, well, common embarrassed_smile.gif

Really? An 80x80 pixels avatar-type picture in the heading of a wanted advert is threatening your well-being?

My apologies then. Thank you. Goodbye.

These photos are not at all what I was prepared for. Some time ago, a rather poor image was posted in this forum of a handsome cigar-shaped Hitchcock pen. But this sure isn't it. In any event, my wallet is spared.

I'll turn my attention towards one of those platinum-plated sterling cigar-shaped pens with the fine engraved MB star over the cap and barrel. That's more my idea of a good looking contemporary Montblanc (if I could just remove the plating!).

Too funny! I'd never have noticed that! The front of the ring, however, does not look Hitchcockesque in any way:

I have tiny hands. That motif ring of mine (hah!) is a size 4, if that gives you any idea of scale. Perhaps I should've done the old quarter trick.

The cookie, however, was every bit as monstrous as the photo suggested. And it was delicious.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
