Where Are Montblancs Manufactured

River

Recommended Posts

Are montblanc pens really manufactured in Germany, or are parts manufactured in China?

Someone I know claims to have been to the "real" montblanc factory in China.

I'm sure that is what the person at the factory told him, but I'm skeptical.

Anyone know the facts?

The expensive MB are all made in Germany; in Hamburg.

The cheap affordable MB's are all made in China.

The 146-149 C/C pens are all made in China.

If your friend could tell you where the secret MB factory is, I'm sure MB would like to know.

You are not 100% correct; the most rare limited editions like the green Fitzgerald, red Jules Verne and Copernicus Rollerball are made in China as well.

yea.........I would agree indeed, mr.michael r. china can manufacturer high precision items as long as the brand name owner 1. supplies the raw material, 2 the tools, i.e the machine or the production line, the supervising production engineers 3. the quality control team then even the Ferrari Formula can be made by China too.......

Excellent set of pictures showing the high quality made in China Montblanc pens. One huge exception though ... they are infringing on trademark and copyright and intellectual property. :headsmack:

Thanks for sharing.

all these replica's are getting better so buyer beware on those ebay listings with blurry images

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

actually, it's not difficult to find out fake but unless u got a pen in hand, it's always related to machinery used in manufacturing, in mb pen, it's the machine which makes the metallic parts, if the machinery precision not up to standard, then always the so called polishing or cutting step supposed to have defects, like the aforesaid arrow clips, the clutch of the cap, the gold trim , the metallic wrapping around the rollerball's tip. For apparels, it's the dyeing part. For leatherware, it's the stitching part, for home repair tools, then edges or sharpness related to machinery cutting.

Without saying deals in eBay always got risks, e.g. the item already got cracks, the guys just pack it in a way looks easy to get crushed, so when u open the wrappage, u find ur pen barrel cracked, they can find excuse dat the damage due to postal problem , not theirs, buyrs take shipping risk, what u can blame is that u ar unlucky, rite? I so far have not bought any pen from eBay, they always show you pics how nice looking are the outside of the pen, but never show u the inside, like the connector, the nib section, the press bar of the cartridge converter, and how u know the cap can clutch the nib section or not, not without hesitations at all. first hand pen still better, ....mmmmm a virgin pen.lol

Picked up a 'Copernicus' fp on ebay just for a giggle and a very few £. Seller put it in 'everything else' category with a tongue-in-cheek "don't know what this is, found it in the garage" and a blurry photo showing a box with 'Montblanc' visible, so he was not really trying to pass off a fake as genuine - I actually gave him positive feedback as he looked like a reputable dealer in first-day covers (postage stamps) and I didn't want to spoil his rating. The pen has chrome rings and the cap and body looks like it is wound with black nylon fishing line. The box looks even worse. It's a cheap CC, but it does actually write, well sort of. I put the ink back in the bottle.

You don't know what you need until you realise you haven't got it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
