Custom Wax Seal

Nice looking seal! The engraving is very well done-- sharp, defined letters. You have now made me *really* want a custom one myself...

Also, the Latin translates to, "The love of books/learning always". (Always love learning would be, "Semper doctrina amā")

Wonderful. Great job!

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Nice seal. I'll have to get one eventually. Once I stop spending my money on pens!

Lovely! And that's a great seal you've made with it too - very neat and even.

That's a beautiful seal!!!!!! Thanks for letting us watch the evolution from early designs to finished product. Now some lucky folks will get letters with that wax seal affixed! What a treat that will be.

Great choice in both the seal and the maker! I had a seal made by waxseals.com as well and was so pleased with both their service and the finished product (no affiliation just a pleased-as-punch customer). Your design looks so crisp and elegant, especially in the beautiful copper wax. Congrats!

Thanks again, everyone!

I used it to make my first seal today. It worked beautifully, aside from a couple of bubbles in the wax (user error). The seal is crisp, with a deep impression. It's a bit larger than other seals I've used, but looks really nice. I used a new wax, a flexible type that is used with a hot glue gun. It was surprisingly easy, no mess, no smoke, no black swirls in the wax. Now I just need to order more, since I'll be out of the sample sticks soon!

Drips happen, you just have to try to be "not too Type A" about it, and reassure yourself that it gives it more character. Hard, I know. On smooth papers, sometimes the drips will pop off and hardly leave a trace behind. Sometimes.

What I do is to get a thicker sheet of paper and cut out a "window" a bit larger than the seal I want want.

I will normally mark the envelope with a pencil right where I want the seal to guide me.

Most of the time any drip will fall on the this sheet and not on the envelope

Thanks for sharing this clever idea!

All the Best,

Gem

Wow!! It turned out beautifully! I hope it brings you boundless joy as you add your personal touch to correspondence. :D

Thanks, too, for sharing your experience and enthusiasm. I'm sure you've inspired more than just me to add this to our wish lists.

On a related note, has anyone found the 'perfect' wax for seals? So far, the one With which have had the most consistent good performance is J. Herbin's supple wax. Does anyone have suggestions for other waxes or pseudo-waxes?

Many thanks in advance!

Atelier Gargoyle wax was made for going through the mails. It's a very nice supple wax.

Atelier Gargoyle wax was made for going through the mails. It's a very nice supple wax.

Atelier Gargoyle flexible wax is much easier to work with than J Herbin. The Atelier Gargoyle wax sets more slowly, and so gives you time to shape the puddle. When stirring the puddle, Atelier Gargoyle wax seems to noticeably thicken at just the right temperature and viscosity to make perfect seals. I just ordered another batch.

My only reservation about Atelier Gargoyle waxes is the lack of metallic luster in their metallics - silver looks like grey - gold looks tan, copper looks brown. J Herbin's metallics have much more metallic luster to the set wax - particularly the J Herbin copper wax.

I hope Atelier Gargoyle will develop better formulae for metallics and maybe for a nice pearlescent white.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
