Noodler's Fox Red

Hi all,

Just my Goulet sample and I'm loving Noodler's Fox Red. I'm thinking of buying an entire bottle (I use it for highlighting and note making in college) but the 1oz for a 3oz price is throwing me off. I really like the color and the bulletproof qualities but I can't seem to justify the price when I could get a 3oz Noodler's Antietam for the same price...

Any thoughts? Can anyone tell me why Fox is limited to 1oz? I'd love to buy a 3oz bottle...

Fox red's an Eternal ink (whatever that means, I've not yet watched the Goulet+Tardif interview, Part 2., where apparently all Noodler's properties are explained).

I imagine that it's more expensive because the materials involved in making it are dearer.

So, I'd guess that in an effort to keep down the price down, and yet allow the ink to be sold at all - The Noodler's Man has a limit as to how much his inks will cost - it's only offered in those 1oz bottles.

I don't know how it would be calculated, but 3oz's of the stuff as it's already sold is $40.50! (so, well in excess of his price limit, I think).

If you don't require Eternal properties (again, whatever that's supposed to mean), then just go with Antietam. Are your notes so in danger of having water damage occur? Or constant exposure to sunlight as to make a few underlines or annotations fade? I would say that for mere notes, Antietam (or even Nikita - that's 4.5oz plus a free pen, if you need to make that many notes!) would be a better buy.

Unless your notes are threatened by constant exposure to the elements (in which case, what are you doing?!), I wouldn't use Fox red for them.

I know that of all the countless notes I made whilst at university, I've kept maybe two notebooks - the rest (and there's a mountain of it) will never be looked at again - that's a good thing as I'd mostly used blue quink (or should I say, Fadey McFadesalot.), and black quink (or, rather, parker dark grey ink) before discovering Heart of Darkness.

The small bottle suits me as I only use Fox red once a year.

It's strictly because of the cost of the materials that go into making the ink. Those 1oz eternals are very difficult to make and very costly. To package it in a 3oz bottle would be astronomical, and Nathan won't stand for that.

Yes you can get custom larger sizes (usually 16oz, 32oz, or more) but it's going to be tremendously high in cost. He may not even be able to do it for these particular inks because of materials availability/cost, but happy to inquire if you'd like.

You might want to try Empire Red, it's another eternal (or perhaps even bulletproof?) red ink.

Oh, water damage on university notes, or shall we say, tea/soda/coffee damage? I was, and am, still a constant drinker of various beverages while reviewing notes. This has ended rather disastrously once or twice.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
