Mike-It-Work! Really Works

I have send pens to have their nib modified to three different places. Each of these places had different prices and different lengths of time to do pretty much the same job and there is only one place that I'm planning to come back, and by the way I already have.

That place is Mike-it-work!

I'm sure that for a lot of you here at FPN what I'm about to write is old news, but if it helps only one person I'm going to be happy I wrote it.

If you are looking for a fast and professional service for your pen look no farther. Mr. Michael Masuyama of Mike-it-work! is the man for you.

I send to him a large Sailor 1911 with a B 21k nib, a Pilot Falcon SM nib and a Pilot Custom 75 M to modify to italic and in a matter of weeks, as oppose to months as one of the other places, he send them back to me.

The Sailor and the Falcon pens wrote like a dream. As soon as I had time to try them they became my favorite pens of all time. They both write with an exquisite smoothness that they didn't have before! As for the Pilot Custom 74 I didn't like the scratchy feeling it came back with. I wrote and email to Micheal telling him how the pen felt to me and the same day he answered asking me to send the pen back to fix it to my style of writing.

The other two places, one took three weeks to answer my emails, which they only did until after I call them and the other place never answer neither my email or even the messages I left with my calls.

When I put together value for money, customer service, speed and quality of the work Mike-it-work came of top every time.

I first heard of Mike-it-work! here in FPN so as my way to thank the FPN community and indeed Micheal himself I'm posting this hoping, as I mention above, that this information is going to help one of our members as one of them helped me when he mention Mike-it-work!

All the best

Good to hear. I do nibwork on all my pens but the results vary...it's good to know a place where you can get professional work done.

Since Mike isn't a member here why don't you pen him a Thank You note from the pen

he's done that you like the best.

If you think you are happy sending your pens to him, just wait until you have the

opportunity to sit across from him at a show and have a grind done. You think the pens you have NOW are nice...nothing can beat the instant feedback between nib technician and customer real time, face to face.

That withstanding, I hear ya, he does Wonderful work. :clap1:

My best writers come from him as well, and he's extremely polite and considerate.

Time will say nothing but I told you so.

Mike tamed a real brat of a pen I had, while I sat across from him at the Little Rock show last March. When he handed me back my pen to try out, I would have sworn that was NOT the same pen, had I not watched him work on it!! He does amazing work and he's a very nice person.

I had the pleasure of having the table next to Mike and his sweet wife at the Dallas pen show. They kept him hopping! He does great work and is a great guy! He has worked on my HS Lava, 149, 146, Dumas and a Pelikan 800 and I am happy with them all. I believe he is also who Cole's of London sends their Visconti nibs to for adjustment and repairs. He is based in Atlanta.

I have a Montblanc Legrand Traveler with him for repair to a damaged nib. I am hoping to get it back in the next 4-6 weeks based on his esitmates. From the recommendations I got he must do excellent work.

Regards

Another satisfied customer.

When I took my lunch "hour" at the Dallas Pen Show last Friday, my first stop was to see Danny at the Write Pen, and Perry (Pakmanpony). (They were the first two "pen people" I ever met, at the Dallas show in 2008.) Danny sorted out a couple of nibs for me, but when I asked about grinding a cursive italic, he directed me to Mike at the next table. I got on Mike's list for Saturday.

What fun! I really didn't know which of my pens was the best candidate, and I took several with me. Mike helped me narrow it down, and we settled on a different pen than I originally planned. But that's the advantage of asking an expert. The nib is fantastic and I'm really enjoying it. Mike's wife is delightful, too.

BTW, late Saturday I stopped back by to say bye to Danny and Perry and got to see Perry's new acquisition from the show. Hope I'm not giving away a state secret, but it sure was purty!!!!

Mike is my favorite go-to guy as well. I've tried some others, but his have been consistently better.

Mike has stubbed/italisized about 6 pens for me. He's top notch for sure. And Bruce is right about the face to face experience. He stubbed one of my Pilot 823's at the 2010 DC pen show and it has been my EDC pen ever since.

Mike's a class act all the way.

I had three pens worked on by Mike at the Dallas Pen Show last Friday. Outstanding work, all of them. :notworthy1:

So YOU'RE the one with three pens that I was waiting in line behind that day  . That's OK. While I was waiting, I found my Conklin crescent filler.

I was ready to give my Rembrandt away just to get rid of it, but after Mike worked on it, it is fun to write with. I asked him to stub the medium nib. He worked on it for a while, watched me write with it, and then worked on it some more -- one of the highlights of the show.

Just 3?

Pashaw.

I was Mike's 2nd customer at Atlanta one year. Right behind another FPNer.

They had Mike do 7 pens. :notworthy1:

It was cool, she's a neat lady and her 12 pen leather case was a mobile pen show itself. I think I had 4 done and her and I switched back and forth with Mike well into the afternoon.

Haven't bought a new pen at a show yet.

Sure have come home with alot of them that were like new when they left the show.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
