Treefrog Paper - A Potentially New Bagasse

I was looking for other sources of bagasse paper and stumbled upon Treefrog Paper. They sell copy paper, but are not widely distributed. They are based in Atlanta, and are in a few retail outlets there. If anyone has tried it, I would be interested in hearing how it takes fountain pen ink and also how it compares to the other bagasse that folks here have ordered online.

I am hoping that perhaps someone in the Georgia area has tried it?

Drop your shorts, the site wants you to Flash.

I'm curious too. Always looking for cheap (we burn through paper) and FP friendly.

  • 3 years later...

I think Office Depot/Max is discontinuing Sugarmade (nooooooo!!) But I saw they now carry this Treefrog paper. I did a little digging online and found it cheaper elsewhere... I'll report back with the results.

Lovely paper. All of the wonderful properties I've come to expect from (primarily composed of) sugarcane paper.

Treefrog is a cool white, Sugarmade a warm white

Treefrog a "front" and "back", a smoother side and less smooth but still not toothy feel. Sugarmade has a bit of tooth.

Sugarmade held up to the light, you can see the fibers aren't laid as flat and orderly, whereas the Treefrog definitely has a more uniform appearance. Treefrog seems to fold crisper in my origami.

No bleedthrough, minimal show through even with my wet pens. I get very little feathering or spread on Sugarmade, none with most pens and inks, even flexy pens and dip nibs. Treefrog is similar in behavior, and smooth enough that my dip nibs don't catch as much.

If you like sugarcane paper, if you like Sugarmade but want a smoother version, if you just like paper... buy this paper. It also works well in my printer, which I guess was the original intended use so there's that too!

I had a similar experience with Treefrog. I like it because it is more white, whereas the Office Max one was a dull gray. I happened to see a little of it at a local Kelly Paper in SF, but it was a one-off order at the time that they were trying to dump. I got a couple reams and used it to make fountain pen friendly work notebooks! It was a huge score at the time.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
