Zentangle Advice

I have no problem with the zentangle people, only that it leads some to think they need something special to do it or an external guide. Like all kinds of active meditation, sometimes the help is a help, but the only real secret is to do it, enjoy it, repeat :)

I agree with that. As a consumer it is also your own responsibility to do some research about a product/service. As long as people do that and realise that this is mostly just marketing something and they only need a bit of help from the website than I'm ok with that. It is when consumers are being tricked when one should worry and be annoyed by it.

This is a question the buyers have to answer themselves. Do I feel tricked? I agree, everything is fine as long as those people, who bought the set, think that the system works.

Maybe I should try to get the books from a student, in order to read them more carefully. I hope she kept them.

I've been doing Zentangles lately, trying to use it as a 'meditation' or stress relief but it makes me really tense!

I think if I keep doing it I will make up my own patterns. I find painting backgrounds for mixed media canvases or art journal pages to be way more meditative and de-stressing than drawing such exact little patterns to someone else's specifications. But that's just me. I have no issue with the whole thing; just think maybe it's not for me.

I've always taken the provided patterns as a guide who find it easier to have a 'jump-start' not a required element. I've done it my own way since the beginning! Though I do sometimes look at other zentangles for fun...

Are those "15 Minute Challenges" and this other stuff part of the Zentangle-System itself, or are those elements some teachers came up with?
