Which Pens Are Made In France?

Recommended Posts

My sister-in-law is in Paris for a couple of weeks, and has some flea market time. She found a pen called "Gold Starry" and one called "UNIC", and asked me what they are and what is made in France. I told her about the Chinese Gold Stars, and the vintage Gold Medal and Gold Bond from National, and the Wahl Gold Seal. Any knowledge about what she found?

Also, other than Waterman, Cartier, and Dupont, what comes or came from France?

Many thanks.

Some Parkers and some very high classed Parkers were made in France...I believe all Parkers are now made in China.

Many Parker pens are made in France (it's engraved on the cap); also Oldwin (but the shop is closed until the 29th of August), Lépine, LM Le Bois, Cris...

Older brands (discontinued): Bayard, Jif, Stylomine, Unic, Excelsior, Frazar, Météor, Stylox, Semper....

And many others I suppose. Hope this helped.

If I may give some advice, try to find a Bayard pen. Those ones have a very good reputation.

Are you sure that Parker is Still made in France?

Or are you do you just have old Parker pens from back when France made Parker pens?

I have Parker pens with US on them.

There are those who have Parker pens made in England till last year or the year before; when they closed down the British factory.

France once made some wonderful P-75's way back when.

Yes. Parker Jotters (except the Premium finish), Vectors (except the Premium finish), Sonnets, Premiers and Duofolds are all currently made in Nantes, France at the Waterman factory. Parker Quink ballpoint refills, rollerball refills, ink cartridges and bottled ink is also made in France.

Only Jotter Premium, Vector Premium, IM and Urban models are made in China.

Luxor licenses the Parker name to make Parker pens in India for the Indian market but they are not available for sale in the US or Europe. Luxor has some different finishes and some variations in design.

I purchased a new stainless steel Jotter in Staples in April of this year and it was made in France. I purchased a Sonnet Flighter at Paradise Pen in May of this year and it is made in France.

Parker: Sonnet Flighter, Rialto Red Metallic Laque, IM Chiseled Gunmetal, Latitude Stainless, 45 Black, Duovac Blue Pearl Striped, 51 Standard Black, Vac Jr. Black, 51 Aero Black, 51 Vac Blue Cedar, Duofold Jr. Lapis, 51 Aero Demi Black, 51 Aero Demi Teal, 51 Aero Navy Gray, Duofold Pastel Moire Violet, Vac Major Golden Brown, Vac Deb. I agree with you wholeheartedly

I have a beautiful, diminutive Bayard Superstyl, made in about 1940. If you can find any of these Bayards you will be doing well!

Oh, and it has the most amazing flexible 18C nib!

I concur, the last time that I saw a Parker Premier, it indeed carried the "made in france" engraving.

Yes. The 75s in the classic Cisele and the fancy laque versions are stunning. Some other French Parkers worth looking at are the 35, 85, 95, 180 and the older Premiers from the 1980s/90s.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
