Hi Guys,

I just liked both M1000 and M1005. Just want to have an idea and preference from our experts, I started this topic.

Which Pelikan do you prefer ?

My personal favourite is the black M1000.

I believe that Diamine Midnight would work well in the M1005. I haven't got an M1005 myself, but I have used Midnight in a blue Pelikan M205 demonstrator without any problems.

The demo would be my choice. I have the m800 demo and love it.

Enjoy!

I have only few pens and only one Pelikan, and it is the 1005 demo.

It is a really nice pen with the clear material and rhodium trimmings.

I would however not recommend for daily use.

To ensure that mine stays clean I flush it and soak it after a week of being inked, and it already takes 12 hours of water inside to remove all the ink in back corners of the section.

I thus use it one week at a time and then would leave it clean in the display box for few weeks....

Cheers,

Cedric

The 1000, I'm not a huge fan of demonstrators. but thats just my choice.

Don't own one yet, was holding out for a blue striped version. The demo model has my eye right now, if I do take the plunge on a 1000 it will be the demo model.

As much as I like the m1005, I prefer the m1000 because the inks won't stain the body barrel and because I am not a big fan of rhodium plated nibs.

I'm usually a fan of demonstrators but something about the M1005 doesn't sit quite right with me.

I'd take a 1000 over a demonstrator any day -- TWSBI fills my demonstrator crave and helps me understand why people often aren't fond of them -- you can see condensation, staining, any ink leaking past seals, etc. -- I'm not at all fussy, but if you are worried about looks, the 1005 could cause you grief in time.

I had the same issues with my Yellow M910 Toledo, if you use a cotton bud or a soft tube cleaning brush (if you can't find one elsewhere you can buy one from a good fish/aquarium stockists) then you don't need to leave it soaking.

To the original poster: I'd like an M1005 blue striated with Rhodium trim, but they don't make it. IF I buy another it would be the green and gold: I prefer to use my pens than worry about cleaning them after I've used them hence not the demonstrator.

As for ink, with one recent exception (it was in the pen for less than 10 minutes), I've never used black ink in a pen but I've never had a Diamine ink stain a pen, some of their inks (Majestic Blue) can require a lot of rinsing to remove all traces but it just requires a bit of patience.

Mixed feelings.

I have the M1000 in green (MB BRG, or Zhivago, usually) and in black (plus the M1050 in green), the clear M1005 (currently Diamine Twilight, haven't seen staining issues so far) and the clear M800 (currently MB Violet).

Can't decide. The M1005 is gorgeous, but I tend to alternate it often with traditional green.

I agree a blue striped M1005 would be extremely interesting.

If you're O.C. about clean pens, and intend to use them, you'd better stay away from clear demos...

P.S.:

I guess it is time to update my old poll:

I was thisclose to buying the M1005 because I love the monochrome nib, clip, etc. It looks great. I currently have an M805 in blue stripes and love its looks. If Pelikan would offer a blue stripe M1xxx I'd be first in line to get one. I just don't like the colors of either M1000, but I'm not thrilled with the limited nib sizes for the M1005 either. If there were an option for stub/BB/BBB monochrome nibs on the M1005, I'd grab that in a heartbeat.

All black. All the time. I don't understand Pelikan's Corporate thinking on producing a demonstrator for their flagship Souveran line. I happen to prefer the MB 149 with black ends.

My only demo is the amber Pel (M200? M201?) with the gold nib and trim. It was extremely frustrating to use until I soaked it for 2 days with cold water and diluted ammonia. Now I only fill it with PR's Shoreline Gold. So I don't need to soak it after EVERY use, and frankly no more demos for me.

But it does attract comments every time I use it in a meeting.

I own a M205 Clear Demo. Unfortunately, I let the cap fall from my desk about one year ago and it broke next to the crown in very tiny pieces, however it's still works. The floor was made of wood. That cap is light. There wasn't reason to break like that. If it was just a little crack, ok, it could happen.

I don't know if the M1005 Demo is made of the same material, but I'm pretty sure the M205 Clear Demo is not made of the same sturdy resin (or good plastic) as the M2xx and M4xx black finish.

On the other hand, the three M1000 I have are awesome and sturdy!

I have a M1000 in green stripe (XF), a M1050 in black/gold (bold), and a M1005 (XF). I love them all. If you made me choose only one, though, it would be the M1000 XF green striped. No hesitation. One of my all time favorite pens, and the one that gets the most use.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
