How do you know if your ink is polar or non-polar? (in particular, Pelikan 4001 Royal Blue)

if it mixes with water (which it does, and you can dilute it with water), I think it is hydrophilic which means it is polar. In fact, I don't think there is many organic material (i.e. hydrocarbon chains) in inks so its hardly non-polar. Non-polar or hydrophobicity has properties like oil and won't dissolve in water. In this sense, I don't think any particular ink is non-polar.

 

These are the scientific definitions of polarity, I hope that's what you meant...
