The one thing you have to be careful about with Topaz is that if you use the standard settins fro each filter, that they are rather OTT. This is why I tend to create my own :D.

OTT???? Das ist was?

"Over the top": as in "a bit extreme/severe"... :)

Interesting exchange of point of views on digital photography. I use CS4 for now, until I decide to update. I have seen a demonstration of what one can do with Niks applications, but I'll have to wait awhile - considering major expenses domestically in the next few months.

A few weeks ago, spent some time on the North-West coast, spending quite a few hours in museums in Seattlle, Victoria and Vancouver studying West-Coast art made by members of North American First Nations. Here are a few pictures.

Here are a couple of pictures from the Istanbul Spice Market. The colors were amazing.

ABSOLUTELY love these photos. I can't stop looking at them, the shelves, the mounds of spices, the patterned containers, the people, the colors all visually captivating.

Thanks for sharing. How wonderful that the natural world supplies us spices to enrich and cause our foods to be more varied and flavorful! I buy small jars and tins of spices in the supermarket. I would love to see and make purchases in such a marketplace as these.

Here are a couple more market shots from Istanbul. These are both from the Spice Market.

Kathleen, I did come home with a few spices (they vacuum pack everything, so you can bring it back to the US), but my biggest purchase there was 2 kilos of mixed olives. Vacuum packed, it looked like a brick of colorful olives.

No, you remember correctly — I spent almost 2 weeks in Turkiye in late June-early July. We had a wonderful time, spending time in Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, and the Cappadocia region. I posted links to my photos in the Chatter forum when I got back (the thread is here). I was very impressed with your country and the hospitality that we found everywhere.

While in Izmir, I found a shop with many fountain pens, and bought a Visconti set commemorating the 1923 founding of the Turkish Republic. That was my souvenir from the trip.

wow! i'm happy for you, and glad you like Turkey.

you know, i'm very surprised that you've found such a spectacular fountain pen in Turkey, because i'm hardly find even a fountain pen. not many various fp's found here.

1-2 weeks are not enough to explore Turkey, i hope one day you'll visit again.

I quite agree! I could easily have spent months there. There is so much I didn't see, and I would like to have had more time in Istanbul!

The one stationery shop in Izmir had quite a large selection of fountain pens, with perhaps 15-20 brands (and hundreds of pens). I found several other small shops near a university that had a few brands of fountain pens locked in a case.

Great tips -- thanks!

Edit: BTW -- do you use mostly Topaz Adjust or the whole suite?

I do have the whole suite, but I mostly use Adjust. The noise reduction tool (forgot its name now), is awesome too - I don't think there is anything better right now.

The one thing you have to be careful about with Topaz is that if you use the standard settins fro each filter, that they are rather OTT. This is why I tend to create my own :D.

You can actually try them out for free for a month, which is nice too, and upgades are free as well.I started at V1 or 2, and they are now at 4 and 5 with some already.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

Again -- thanks for all the tips! I've downloaded evaluation copies of both Topaz Adjust and Silver Efex Pro, and I just received today's Topaz newsletter and they're coming out with their own B&W plug-in -- you probably already knew that, but in case not here's the YouTube link...

Since I saw the posting above about architectural details, I had to post a few more of mine from Turkiye.

I love stained glass too. I took a lot of pictures of stained glass windows inside castles and cathedrals on my recent trip to the UK. Here are two that were in a chapel inside Stirling Castle. I have some more that I will share later.

I really like the fabric photos and the architectural details. Foxtail your photos of Turkey are stunning. It is a wonder that column is standing with its cracks and crumbles.

Sonia, I love your photos of New Orleans.

Everyone, thanks for sharing this is a great thread!

Kathleen, almost all of the columns and statuary are from archeological digs, and most are reconstructed. They put the pieces back together like 3D jigsaw puzzles.

Less than 5% of the archeological sites in Turkey have been excavated. Can you imagine the treasures left to be found!

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
