Pilot Vanishing Point/capless In Singapore

hi all, i would like to ask if anyone knows where is the best place to get a pilot vanishing point/capless pen in singapore? like where am i able to obtain it for the best price? i've looked at the pilot singapore website, and compared to amazon prices, it's super high!!

im actually using a lamy safari ef nib now, considering to try a M nib on a vanishing point, do you guys think i should try? i dont know if i'll be comfortable writing with a M nib though. the lamy safari writes ok to me, i think its quite smooth, but not super smooth. i've read that the VP has got a good nib!

or besides the VP, are there any other fountain pens that you guys can recommend to me that would be a good upgrade from lamy safari? (and where i can get them). as a gauge, my budget is roughly 200usd, so abt 250sgd.

thanks!

I cannot help you with actual places to buy, but I can add an opinion about which pens to look at.

If I were to look at pens in that range, I would consider:

Pilot VP (which you are already looking at)

A Pelikan Mxxx. Choose the one that is within the price range and most comfortable to you.

Lamy 2000. On the lower end of the range, but a well loved pen nonetheless.

Sailor Sapporo

Be careful. Pilot VP medium is a lot bolder than Lamy Safari EF.

Have you taken a look at Tay's Pensinasia website? http://www.pensinasia.com

Email him for a quote - he doesn't put prices on the site. I remember getting a good deal when I bought two Pilots (743 and m90) from him. No affiliation, just a customer, blah-blah (the usual disclaimers) :)

Many shops including Kinokuniya and Popular sells VP. Your best choice are pens shops like Fook Hing at Bras Basah where they allow you to try out and even allow you to bargain. The VP is gripped over the clip which many people find difficulty with but its not a problem for others. You may look at VP Decimo while testing at Fook Hing. The nib writes (boringly for me) like a Lamy safari nib. The good part is you can buy the custom nib assembly from Richard Binder.

actually, when i tend to write a lot and fast with the lamy safari ef nib, it starts off okay at first, but in a short while, i would observe that the ink flow kinds of "dry up". as in, the lines that i lay with the pen becomes thinner and sometimes no ink will come out. i think its maybe due to an EF nib having lesser ink flow, so when you write faster than the rate of ink flow towards the nib, the ink dries up? i dont usually take my time to write with this pen. haha.

that's why im considering an M nib so that i can write faster w/o seeing the same problems with the EF nib? please advise. still a noob at these fountain pens, but they are interesting stuff!

Both the fine and medium nibs for the VP never seem to run dry. However they don't write quite as wet as the Hero 616 or 100 or 200A or the Sheaffer pens.

I have a Lamy EF and sometimes starts up dry or skips.

after a few days of wandering around on the net, i've found the pilot custom 823 getting good reviews, tried one with the F nib and liked it!

now, is there anywhere online to buy that pen cheap??

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
