So... Who Got There Noodlers Flex Pens Today?

Not PeppWaves, but it looks like the tailcap you need if you want to use cartridges in a VP.

As a VP owner and user, and with 'your' trust, I will confirm this.

Sorry to post twice but I felt the need to share this... I am playing with my Flex Demonstrator from the "January Madness", waiting for my Poltergeist Pumpkin to ship out (not a complaint, but I am excited! :vbg:)

I almost decided I was going to sell them both when no feed adjustment seemed to cure the railroading I was getting with even the smallest amount of flexing. I couldn't understand what was going on, but then, the light switched on and I blamed the ink I was using (Diamine Dark Brown). :eureka: I thought of the nicest wettest ink I wanted to try in it, before giving it away and cursing at it, and filled up with Pilot Blue... Instant cure! :cloud9: :bunny01:

Now I am virtually railroad free. I feel like a bit of an airhead not to think the ink caused the problem, but that was it. Well I will try and remember to avoid drier inks in my Noodler's pens from now on.

And if anyone else runs into flow issues, and you have a temporary loss of wit, try to remember to try all your inks before giving up, and I am sure if you're another inkophile you will have plenty of competent inks!

(Sorry for my heavy use of emoticons...               :P)

I was so sad that I did not receive a shipping notice today;9! However, I ordered late, and expect I will get a late shipping notice. I was, and still am, tempted to order more ink , or another pen or two, to get more shipped at the same time!

i haven't been this uptight since trying to get tickets for the Grateful Dead, and i hope I'll be just as satisfied too!

Good thing the Goulets don't require index cards & SASEs & postal money orders...

I wonder if the website problems was in any way part of the Fredericksburg, MD to Greensboro, NC outage caused by squirrels chewing cables in both places. I have no idea where the Goulet server is, but my limited knowledge of the internet suggests that a problem like that can have strange consequences.

We have sent troops to investigate the mischief.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Yep yep everyone was right, the silver barrel thing is for my vanishing point. You can see it in the picture, top left. The barrel thing goes over the ink cartridge. You can also see the syringes I bought from the Goulets. Basically, if you buy or have a VP you will notice the converter that comes with it, the Con-50 is terrible. It barely takes up any ink and leaves a wide area where there is no ink at all. So to fix this issue I kept the cartridge that came with the pen and cleaned it. Then I loaded up the syringe with ink and squirted it into the used ink cartridge and inserted it into the VP.

Now I have a Noodlers Brown #41 in the ink cartridge and it worked perfectly.

Using the syringes is a great way to avoid using converters in c/c pens and get the most ink into your fountain pen.

So I began using the Noodlers Flex, sorry no video. MIght try to put one together but my writing is terrible. Anyways, I know this has ben mentioned before but how do I say this? The pen, the actual smell of the nib is stinky. I guess it has to do with the plastic, it's not too bad but you can definitely notice it. Now, as far as the flex of the pen. I had never used a flex pen in my life and have only been into fountain pens for about a year, so needless to day I might not be the authoritative voice on the subject. Does the oen flex? Yes! Does it flex without any pressure? No. One must apply enough pressure, as if writing with a ballpoint pen that does not write smoothly without applying pressure, for the nib to flex. I am noticing that the more I write with it the more easily the nib is starting to flex. Maybe as it gets broken in, it will flex more easily?

I know it's not really fair to compare a $14 pen to one that costs hundreds but it would be really interesting to have someone that knows more about flex pens and compare the two.

Overall the pen is awesome and I hope everyone enjoys their pen. Normally the pen writes like a fine sized nib and flexed I would say it writes about 1-1.5 mm. I have not experienced any "Rail-road" issues while writing and the pen wrote the very first time ink was put to paper. The flow is about a 6, enough ink to matter but not gushy by any means. I have only used Australian Roses by Noodlers and see considerable shading.

Yeah, the Noodler's pens do have a smell to them due to the plastic material. It should go away over time though!

And to all who haven't gotten shipping notices yet, we're working hard! Hoping to get out everyone who ordered on Monday by tomorrow. The guys are working overtime, and they all made a pact not to shave until all the flex pens were out. LOL. I think they just wanted an excuse not to shave for a few days (which is crazy, it's 97 degrees out today!). I am not a fan of the facial hair.

hmmm now I need to get some better paper. The stuff I have bleeds and feathers pretty bad (with the exception of a single Clairefontaine notebook). What paper is used for the GPC invoices? I remember asking at some point, but I can't find it.

I got mine yesterday. I can see it's going to take a while to learn how to use it properly.

The Poltergeist Pumpkin is neat looking. I think the swirled colors look better than the regular solid ones do.

You know, I'd've thought that the cats in the tubes would have stopped the evil squirrel army far more effectively than anything...Or really, just been the problem. XD

btw - I just read the entire thread and I'm piping in with my Good Goulet Service testimonial:

I actually placed 2 orders. One with the Lapis pen during the server lag as I didn't want to fiddle too much because I'd already gotten to checkout once and lost my clears. A few hours later I went back and ordered the other 2 colors.

I got an email from Brian saying he was refunding the shipping on one of my orders. I never asked them to do that, and I was both very surprised and very pleased. I knew they were being bombarded with orders and however they figured out that I had 2 orders on the same day and consolidated is impressive.

I'm a new customer to them as I'd only placed my first order last week for some Quo Vadis journals. I'll definitely be shopping with them again - and often.

Got an email from Brian saying my package is on the way

I was a little anxious because at first I couldn't make payment even though my order went through - it never happened before, and I felt bad for sending an email to let them know since I could imagine things were absolutely crazy. Rachel responded really quickly though and friendly as ever :) Only hours after my payment finally went through today I was notified my order was on its way. That's just amazing!

Goulets, you're great! I'm a more than happy customer :)

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
