I hope that someone else posts a clear photo of a good working position for feed and nib as it may help others somewhat.

This is the way mine came factory. I haven't changed it simply because it flexes great, keeps up, and only railroads when I try to make it do so.

Hope this helps.

Hi that has helped a bit, I think I had my feeds pushed in a bit further than yours. Works better but still needs a bit more adjusting. Thanks for your time in posting that photo, you are a gentleman! I have noticed on another reply that someone says that Brian at Goulet explains something about feed adjustment, I will take a look at that as well.

I received two yesterday. Frankly, I'm underwhelmed. I certainly wouldn't buy another. These things are nothing like what I think of as a flex nib pen. Perhaps if you've never used a vintage Wahl or waterman these things would pass as flex nibs. However, they require so much pressure to flex a tiny bit that I think you'd end up with a blister. My hat is off to those of you who provided sample writing that demonstrated flex with these pens, both for your beautiful penmanship and your steely grip.

On the plus side, they only cost $14.00 so the loss is modest. Save your money and get a real flex nib.

No, they are not vintage "wet noodle" pens. Compared to the modern "nails" that pass for fountain pen nibs they are quite refreshing, and seem to me to be more of the "average" vintage flex. The depth of the nib into the section affects the amount of flex available. Sliding the nib and the feed further out helps quite a bit.

Real "wet noodle" flex nibs, those that act more like gold brushes, are rare, and unheard of at this price point. The one that I have I stumbled onto in a "antique" (read junk) shop. The owner, fortunately, knew it was worth more as a pen than as scrap. They are also very fragile and prone to "springing" where I think a 500 lb gorilla would have a hard time springing one of these pens.

I'm up to 6 of these pens now.... The original creaper demonstrator, Dec 25th, Lapis, Pumpkin, Coral, and Cardinal.

Darn you Nathan! Between that and ink I just blew enough to afford (!) :headsmack:

I think someone already posted the link, but here's the video Brian just did on how to adjust the flex pen nib and feed to get the result you want. Hope this helps some of you who have stiff nibs, ink flow issues, etc....

Received mine today from Pear Tree Pens. In less than a week all the way to Europe. No complaining here.

Loaded it with a well flowing ink: Akkerman Rood Haags Pluche. Really nice, nice flex and line variation, no railroading issues so far. So I'm happy :cloud9:

i can't stand the wait, especially knowing that canada post workers are on lock out, so my pen is completely stuck in some warehouse, not travelling towards me... :gaah:

i'm practicing to write with flex dip pens while waiting for my pen. i think i'll be perfectly ready when it will finally arrive.

Hi from Australia.

I ordered three of these pens: one VULCAN'S coral from Goulet pens, and two "Lapis INFERNO" (one for my son) from the certain big internet company on ebay. This was basically because I knew that the INFERNO would be sold out on Goulets before I could get online early the next morning. I was right!

So...Now I am waiting patiently.

But, was buying a Lapis INFERNO and a VULCAN'S Coral tempting fate or a challenge to the Gods? :headsmack:

So, how about the huge VULCAN'S INFERNO from Chile erupting huge clouds of VULCAN'S gas and ash, and cancelling and disrupting mail and flights here

.....Now, that's just a coincindence, of course

Still...waiting patiently.

Thank you for the video, Brian, I know that many will find it so helpful. I flushed my pen (Poltergeist Pumpkin) well, inked it up with Apache Sunset and it was amazing right out of the box! I'm playing with it now, trying to learn how to get shading ... just having fun and appreciating all the work and dedication that Nathan doesn't just put into his pens, but pours into his pens. I'm watching, Brian ... I'm watching for another and will grab it as soon as it comes in. LOL

I did. Bought Poltergeist Pumpkin and a bottle of Noodler's Apache Sunset and hope to get some nice shading.

i just traded my black-ivory for this one, but kept the nib and feed (the other was new at the store -can't say who traded me) and used with apache sunset... alas, so faded!!!! well, i'm not happy with my noodler pen!!!! every color i use in it just looks faded and nothing flows well. :crybaby:

My Noodler’s flex pens and ink have arrived today, finally :)

However I got spanked for a great big import duty circa $42 dollars. I knew I was going to have to pay import duty but that was considerably higher than anticipated :(

I haven't had a chance to check them and see what colour I'm keeping (that's this evening's fun) but once I have the others will be put up in classified for other FPN members, probably only really sensible to ship within UK now they've crossed 'the pond' though.

Mine seem be very wet writers, and when I say wet I mean wet. They leave a big pool behind when ever they write and basically the ink never dries on the paper. I was first using noodler's black swan and thought it might have been the ink ( I had just got it in a sample vial), so I tried the tried and trusted parker blue quink ink but alas, still very wet. I've tried adjusting it like Brain's video but not matter what I can't seem to get it to be drier, I can't even get it to railroad, that's how much ink is being fed. This is occurring with both flex pens I bought. Any suggestions guys?

Did you flush them with a detergent solution before use, there may be some residual detergent in them assisting the ink flow some what?

Just a question to the more knowledgeable:

Concerning the tiny hole in the cap that people have been going on about, would that be of any advantage as far as air-travel is concerned?

I've never experienced the dry-outs that some here have reported with these pens (I don't think that the hole goes all the way through in mine, I mean, water doesn't appear to leak from it during a flush out... is it supposed to?); however, I do have to travel quite often enough, and am wondering if the Noodler flex, piston-filler, or any other pen with a tiny cap hole (thus far the flexes are the only pen that I own that have a cap hole) are easier to travel with full in the pressurized cabin? (I like to write on board - helps pass the torturous hours)

Thankeesai!

Several thoughts on what you've said, and what you asked.

1: When I first noticed the tiny hole, I thought I only had some pens that had this. I looked more closely, and discovered that on some of them, the hole is neatly concealed by the clip - but, as far as I can tell, all the Noodlers piston fillers (that I've seen) have such a hole.

2: Air passes through a hole more easily than water. Water often won't drain easily through such a small hole, unless there is also an air vent to equalise the pressure. So your observation tells us nothing about whether or not the hole goes all the way through. Sorry.

3: These Noodlers pens do have a tendency for the ink to dry out (or evaporate) much more quickly than I'm used to on my Pelikans, my TWSBI, or even my Platinum Preppy. That said, there are other makes that behave this way. Wality certainly does...

4: Since the issue with air travel involves air pressure inside the barrel, within the ink chamber, a hole in the cap should have no effect at all on how the pen behaves in the air. I believe the hole is there as a means of preventing pressure / suction when replacing or removing the cap.
