So... Who Got There Noodlers Flex Pens Today?

WOOT! My pens are here. :)

I will have pictures up as soon as I can find the camera battery charger. *damn thing has legs*

The pens look great and where wrapped in enough bubble wrap I think the postal workers could have dropped kicked them and it would be fine. They do have a slight odor, reminds me of some of my older fishing lures, that I am told will dissipate over time.

While playing with them I noticed that my lapis inferno piston did not work quite the same as the others. The vulcan's coral and the standard turquoise piston fill I got both have some pressure when the piston reaches the end of the chamber. The lapis on the other hand has a loose spot when it reaches the end of the chamber. Kind of like it is jumping a thread or possibly missing one? May take it apart and see if there is anything to see. Any advice or similar experiences would be great.

Yesss, mine came today! I'm going to fill it after dinner and probably fail spectacularly, but it will be great learning.

I'll come up with something eventually.

I got mine and did the piston o-ring conversion/restoration on both of them right away. They both do something that may be similar to what you are describing. If I keep unscrewing after the piston is extended all the way it will skip on the threads of the piston rod. If I keep unscrewing the end of the pen will screw off leaving the piston and rod in the body. My pens did not do this before the o-ring conversion. Since the o-ring does not extend past the end of the piston rod like the original nylon piston does, I assume that the piston rod now extends slightly farther making it skip when fully extended.

Perhaps the piston rod in your one pen is shorter than the others or the threads on the end cap don't extend as far down as the others do. Alternatively, the piston rod might be spinning causing the same feeling as the threads skipping.

Hope it helps,

-Nick.

hmmm now I need to get some better paper. The stuff I have bleeds and feathers pretty bad (with the exception of a single Clairefontaine notebook). What paper is used for the GPC invoices? I remember asking at some point, but I can't find it.

We use HP 28lb laser color paper (or something like that). You can get it at your local Office Max office supply store, although we buy online in bulk!

As a general update, we should be caught up with orders tomorrow, so if your flex pen hasn't shipped yet (or if you ordered this week in general), you should be getting your shipping notice tomorrow! Thanks for your patience with us!

Double Kudos to the Goulet's for their amazing service and to the USPS!

My order arrived yesterday...on the West Coast...3 days from massive onslaught at Goulet Central to arrival in the Pacific Northwest...WOW! :yikes:

I got two pens, One a Clear Demo nib creaper with the flex nib (thank you for the suggestion Rachel!), the other a Cardinal Darkness, along with 2 inks; Noodler's Black because I did not have any(!) and #41 as it sounds wonderful in all the reviews. It will be interesting to see how the #41 stacks up against the FPN Galileo Manuscript Brown.

Looking forward to the weekend when I can try out the pens!

Congrats to you, Goulet Pens and thank you so much for your hard work on this. I was one of the last people to place an order (1:50AM local time on the West Coast) and I just got my shipping notice today. Excellent work!

Wooo here's a writing/whatever sample with my Vulcan's Coral. I have atrocious handwriting and the flex is something way interesting to use with my handwriting in such a state. The swirlies are fun though. I don't know why my iphone thinks everything is pink. >.>

I got my Poltergeist Pumpkin in today, writing with Noodler's Cayenne. A little too red, the ink that is, I might switch to J. Herbin Orange Indien later on.

Dick, you must be kidding! So Nathan must have perfected his new feed? That is so exciting, I wonder what colours are in this next batch... common, let us in! :clap1: :D ;)

That's only 16 per member with at least 500 posts here.

I don't think that will be nearly enough. ;)

Well, my came on Saturday but it has been screaming busy! I'm not going to give a full review because... I want to try a different ink. I absolutely love BSAR, for the color, shading, everything about it, but I loaded it up in the new dark red flex pen and... too wet. As others had said, once the tines spread, the ink really flows, and the let-up in pressure doesn't stop the fact that a bunch of ink has already flowed down there, so it is impossible to keep the thick parts of the writing from becoming biggish puddles of ink.

Not to worry, I'm giving it time, and I'll get around to it later this week.

Oh, the smell? Someone else hit it exactly: the same smell I remember from the handles of screwdrivers and other plastic-handled tools as I was growing up. I bet I could go out in the garage, pick up a Craftsman screwdriver and find the same smell. Doesn't bother me. Reminds me of my Dad, actually, which is nice.

Got mine today. Not a bad pen. It's somewhat less substantial than I was hoping, but it's not so slight as to feel cheap or anything. The nib requires a pretty serious amount of pressure to open the tines all the way, and that's to be expected. It's got a good amount of line variation, but you have to be brave and not worry too much about bending the tines. It goes through a LOT of ink when writing thick, which is not unexpected. Overall I'm very pleased with it. For the price you simply can't go wrong.

Got mine today--Great pen for $14

If Nathan makes a M800 or 149 sized pen with a flex nib like this one I will be very happy.

The feed is perfected. It will make assembly quicker. Not sure about ALL of the colors, but I have heard a"rumour" that there might, perhaps be demonstators in colors other than clear; like blue, pink, yellow...don't quote me, of course.
