Siena 3-Pens Pouch: A View

Well, after a long time to take a decision made difficult by the very high price of MB pen cases (and worst now, after the recent MB price increase), I finally broke the ice and bought a brand new Meisterstück Siena 3-slots pouch (art. 14313), intended to host three of my 149s.

I saw the case many times in the Internet, but I never had one in my hands until yesterday.

First of all, let me say that it feels very solid. I compared it with a very good 3-pens case by Finocam, also in black leather, which I bought time ago in Spain (by the way, Finocam pen cases are not so easy to find, but they are beautiful and not too-espensive; have a look at http://www.cabero.es/); with the same overall dimensions, the Meisterstück weights almost 30% more.

The back of the pouch, as well as the front and the flap are much more thick and rigid of what I supposed, so the pens inside are protected very well against shocks. Under the flap there is a groove, or an indentation, that "thins" the leather to host the enlarged end of the pen clips, to holds the pen more securely and to avoid the clips becoming loose after being clipped for long time. I do not plan to actually clip my pens, but I tried and the groove perfectly corresponds to the length of 149's clips. I haven't here a 146 to check it out, but I guess it should work with this model, and probably other Meisterstück models too (but not with the Mozart line).

The pouch may easily host three large sized 149s, and this is a good point, as I think this is one of the few MB cases that can be used for that. While I like very much other MB cases, like the old Diaries & Notes or the Westside (which are suitable for 149s), they come only for one or two pens. I also checked yesterday the beautiful (and super-expensive) brown 2-slots pouch in New Zealand deer skin, and it also fits two 149s quite nicely.

Inside to the pouch there are two separation flaps that run down for about 3.5 cm (1.5") to maintain the pens apart. While the interiors of the pouch are covered with jacquard lining, the divisors are in leather.

When filled with three 149s, the flap slides very tightly under the retaining stripe; probably not so much with thinner pens.

The calfskin is soft to the touch and a bit too shiny, but I guess it will greatly improve with age. The MB logo is small enough to make the case simple and unpretentious.

All in all, a very good classic, which I hope will do its service for many years to come.

I've had one of these for many years - my OH kindly had my initials put onto it. I have to say it looks as good now as when I had it - a wise purchase I think! Mine seems to accommodate different sizes of pen - I have a 149, a 146 sized highlighter and pencil in there at the moment.

This is a good case and will last a long time. IIRK it is also one of the most long lived regular production cases MB has. Got mine over a decade ago and very happy since.

I must say that it was worth it to get the Siena 2 pen pouch. That thing is built like a tank. Very thick and hard. LoL

Very soft leather as well! Good purchase, enjoy your pen case.

Beautiful photographs! For me, the Sienna is a very good case, and I now have 3 to carry my favorite pens.

The Finocam products, by Cabero, look very interesting and deserve some more research. Thanks for the link.

A case that also interests me is made in Japan by Somes.

Wow, karmakoda! Fantastic cases indeed. They are also quite expensive, but they seem built very well and have nice, classic colors. Thank you for sharing.

I have three of them, but I put only 2 149s in a pen case. If you put 3 149s in the pen case, it will cause the damage of the precious resins. The separate leather between two spaces is too short.

Thanks.

Fitting two 149s in a single case would still be worth getting this case. I would add that the original version of the Diaries and Notes 2 pen case can also accomodate 2 149s. The most recent version however cannot.

Thank you for the input. May be I am not worried enough about scratching the resin, or perhaps the pouch is just so rigid because of new, but when I insert three 149s, they stay very firm in place inside the case and do not move at all.

Looks good. Anyone knows if £90 would be paying over the top for this pen pouch? Thanks.

This is more or less 150 US dollars or a bit more than 100 Euros. It is a regular price, and if you want it new It is difficult to find it cheaper. If shipping is included, it is a good deal.

The resin would be damaged by touching the leather outdoors in high temperature. If you put 3 149s together , things would be getting worse. I got 1 Pelikan M900 Toledo in the middle and 2 Waterman Serenites, then the terrible thing happened. The lacquer scratched seriously. So I only put 2 pens in the pen case to prevent the tragedy. I still use MB pen cases ( having six 1-pen cases, three 3-pen cases), because the leather quality is good and made by MB. Maybe I will go to Japan to find some high quality leather pen cases to put more pens together. Be care and happy to use MB pen cases. They are unique.

Very good review, I have the 2 pen and I am very happy with it. But I wanted to ask you why not clipping the pens to the case, because of the marks on the leather or the stress in the clips? By the way, I carry a 149 and a M1000 with no problemas at all in my 2 pen case....

Thanks and regards

In my case, just not to stress the clips; as to the marks, I will like having my pouch a little more "aged".
