Platinum Ef And Uef Nibs

I tried a Sailor saibi togi nib before and really like it. Even though it felt like a needle (understandable), there was no skipping and the ink flow was smooth. This is the sort of pen that i can write on bad paper with no worries of bleedthrough or smudging.

However, the sailor saibi is only available in PG (which i owe already, though in M nib) and at a cost of a whopping $350 approx! i'm thinking that a Platinum President will be a cheaper alternative, especially since it is available in a UEF and EF nib. I'll like any owners to chip in their thoughts on the UEF and EF nibs, like how do they write etc... Thanks!

Hi,

I am happy with my President EF. I think I cannot go "finer" even if I really considered to get one saibi...but really too expensive for just "testing" my hand

Enclosed is a test, sorry i do not have better pic, but it maybe interesting.

The grid is 7 x 7 mm

The pen never skip, the ink is Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-peki ( this ink tends to make dirty the nib, but i LOVE it)

I think the pen is an excellent investment if you are looking for a "fine" nib, if you like the golden clips then is even cheaper...so a perfect option!

Cheers

I don't own a Platinum UEF but one of the other VPC members has a couple. I've tried them and I've been impressed - they were consistent and smooth for the width.

Wow, from the photo, the EF nib seems like a really smooth-flowing nib and the UEF sounds like the saibi nib! Incidentally, have you seen the line written by a Platinum Preppy 0.3mm before? Any comment on how thinner the EF or UEF nib is?

I have a 0.3 Preppy and there's really no comparison between it and the UEF, if I recall correctly - the UEF is a lot narrower (and a lot nicer to write with, too).

The UEF is narrower AND nicer to write with?! I'm pretty happy with how the preppy writes so to have a pen that writes narrower and better is a dream comes true. I need a UEF nib!

I admit I'm not a big fan of the 0.3 Preppy - mine always seemed to be really dry. I may have just gotten a bad sample. But I was very impressed with the UEF, yes.

yes i agree with you that the preppy is dry but that's one of the reason why i like it so much because it doesn't cause bleedthrough on my lousy notebooks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
