Nice Small Binder System? (Pocket Diary Size?)

Recommended Posts

I love 11cm x 17cm Clairefontaine Stable bound note books

OTOH- I hate the fact that it is a bound system and I can't keep notes on places to check out/to dos etc and update them at will

Are there good standardized small binders around the same size that can easily be refilled/have notes easily shuffled around?

I'll second the disc-bound system. (Circa/Rollabind/Arc -- they're all interchangeable.) You can make any size notebook you want with them, pretty much.

I think the smallest "standardized" size you can find in the disc system is perhaps the "compact" from Levenger, but they really are not making them any more. They also have a pda sized notebook with just three of the smallest rings at the top short edge. But as mentioned before, you can make your own any size you want, as the discs come in sizes 1/4 inch to 2 inches or so in size (I think 3 inch discs just recently hit the market). My aunt loves to garden, she also uses 3x5 cards for her notes. I took some inexpensive 3x5 cards, punched the mushroom holes with my levenger punch at the top long edge, used the 1/4 inch discs and made her a few little gardening books with maybe a dozen or so cards in each. She keeps it in her pocket outside for note taking, then removes the cards for filing later.

I use an old Filofax, pocket size (approx 4 X 6, or A6), as a notebook. You can use their paper or your own. They also sell hole punches to fit their various size binders.

You can try and snipe an ebay sale, I'm seeing circa punches on there for between $40 and $50.

I just got a beginning Circa system with the punch, rhodia notebook, and the small circa package, as well as the weekly planner.

I love the system and am using it all the time.. Actually, let me rephrase, I love the rings and binder part of the system, but the Levenger paper has a LOT to be desired.

I got the weekly notebook $34 or so and it is SO not worth that money.. For one reason and one reason only.. The paper they use is cr@p. I've tried ALL of my usual pen/ink combinations on it and every one of them has horrible bleed and the lines with an XF nib look more like Medium.

So, if anyone knows of a good template site (like diyplanner but who actually updates their templates) I'd be grateful.. I hate to do it, but I'm going to have to print my own planner up on decent paper.. I just can't stand this Levenger stuff anymore. :(

DIYPlanner now uses a "dynamic template" -- a little program that allows you to print any calendar date range in any format in any size. Here's the link. It can be a little tricky to figure out in the beginning, but you can do any size you want is you pick "Custom" for the size.

Staples carries the Arc system now- it's like Levenger's Circa, but much less expensive. I just stocked up and love them.

How is the paper quality? Anything like the sugercane paper they have there?

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
