Best Nib For Writing Quickly?

My favourite notetaking pens at meetings (= fast writing pens) are vintage Pelikans with wet M and B/stub nibs. The oblique nibs are good too but the normal ones are writing a bit faster. Fine nibs do catch paper fibres every now and then and make me slow down.

Modern nibs with a less generous ink flow don't write as fast as the vintge Pelikans.

Personally, I find medium (and they do vary) or finer broad best if the flow is good but do watch out for the drying time as you don't want to be waiting for the ink to dry before starting a new page.

I can write quickly with a fine nib, but can't read what I've written!

Many thanks, everyone, for your helpful replies.

Best,

Joe

If you know you will be writing quickly, and you want a pen that can "keep up," which nib do you prefer? Are broader nibs really best for this? Any other preferences?

I am a writer and I sometimes have to write very quickly indeed. I have no pens broader than a European medium, but am thinking about going wider because I've heard one can write more quickly with them.

Thoughts?

If you want a Fine pen that has both ink flow ability and is so smooth it won't catch on paper, I suggest a Pilot. I write quickly both big and small with a Custom 823 without any problems right out of the box!

I still think that when writing quickly a medium nib or larger gives me more peace of mind so I can focus more on writing. Let me explain it better; a fine nib will not allow you to write expressively or aggressively but a medium or Broad would handle the extra pressure better. I believe nib size is related to writing pressure according to Sailor nibmesiter. Too much pressure will damage most fine points.

I think it depends on the feed and nib, with a small reliance on ink.

my "fastest" pen is actually my Jinhao #30, with its EF nib. I can whip that thing across the page and the line will not skip at all. TWSBI EF is a close second, with minor skipping but I made the nib a smidge wetter than what it came as.

I am beginning to think a fine might write faster than a medium.  I am doing some testing right now and it is turning out this way lol.  Because it takes time to make the letters with a broader nib.

A pen with a Kugel or "Ball" nib is great for fast writing. Look for an older Pelikan or modern Pelicano pen.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
