I agree that many of these 2d & 3d tier MB pens have delightful nibs. "Chase the nib" is a mantra that holds true for vintage pens, MB or not. I find that finding flexy nibs on MB pens is a (bleep) shoot. If you want truly flexy nibs, go with Mabie & Todd, Swan, of older Wahls.

I buy pens in a variety of markets and if the nib does not suit me, I resell the pen. Some of us here do not have that luxury. But, that's why we have a good marketplace here on FPN.

Another vote for some of the lesser known models. One of my favorite MBs is a 264.

Jar,

getting a MB 264 in very good condition and with F nib for 250 dollars.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks.

I agree with the OP. I just bought a MB 252 (F) and once I inked it up properly w/MB Royal Blue, it's turned into a great writer! Two good things about this pen I've come to love is:

- because it's an older MB, it doesn't attract the attention of my 146, yet I find that delivers similar performance when writing

- because it's an older MB (and doesn't look it), I'm not as paranoid about leaving it on my desk or lending it to someone (tho' they have to be either very good looking or a good friend in order for this to happen)

Not sure what the question is. Are you looking for one or have one coming or is it some other question entirely?

My local dealer has one on offer. Is the price right ? I have already tried it and it is in great shape both in terms of nib and body.

MB 234 1/2 Deluxe ('52-55 only, '55 because of the feed)

semi-flex KOB.

My number one nib/pen, standard in size, brass piston back weighted and very well balanced for my forefinger up, deep in the web of my thumb style of writing.

I'd picked up before I got it in a 4 pen live auction, a prejudice against MB from the Com.

It was an 'ugly' pen. Now, I really like the sleek decedent of the pre-war 139 series.

It has character.

I noticed some one refer to his pen as small. I don't know if it is or not, but most pens were standard sized, like a M400 Pelikan or an Esterbrook. There were a few Medium large pens like the P-51 and the slightly shorter 400NN and the then medium large 146 that grew to match the large 800.

I see so many younger posters who grew up use to the modern Large and Over sized pens, referring to standard sized pens as small.

It's a matter of viewpoint. I come from a time when most pens were standard, and not small.

Others grew up later and don't understand standard is not small; but what they think as normal is medium large, Large and or Over sized.

My MB 234 1/2 is a standard sized pen.

Is there some other pen that is the same price you like more? If not, then it's right.
