Private Reserve Rose Rage

Rose rage is absolutely pink. To me, it lies somewhere in between Pepto and neon pinks. It is much more neon and concentrated from a dip pen than from my Lamy Safari. I assume the exact shade you get will depend on how wet your chosen instrument writes. My scanner isn't capturing colors like I would like it to, so I actually took pictures of these pages in direct sunlight.

There was no feathering or bleed-through, and the ink flow was excellent. I didn't have any issues getting it to start at all once it was loaded in the pen. I have had to fight with other inks to get them rolling, but this was not the case with Rose Rage. It isn't waterproof, but it held up better than I expected it to. Dry time wasn't great and wasn't terrible. I did the "highlighter test" that some people were curious about seeing with this ink. I just basically scribbled over a black Sharpie pen sample with the Safari, but I think in a highlighter pen this could work well. The writing underneath is legible, and didn't smear, though that may be a credit to the Sharpie pen, not the Rose Rage.

Here is a list written with a dip pen where you can see Rose Rage with a bunch of other reds and pinks. Do keep in mind that these all look very concentrated (and that my writing with said pen is terrible).

Overall, I like this ink pretty well. It behaves and is a fun, bright color. I don't think I'll be using it much this time of year, but it will definitely make it into the rotation come Spring and Summer.

LOL!

I have noticed in looking at this paper since doing the initial review, the ink seems to get brighter a day or two after writing with it. That, or it just looks a lot different depending on the light. I think this ink definitely falls under the YMMV category. If you're a fan of pinks though, it's worth picking up.

"your mileage may very", I believe... that's how I meant it anyway. I think this ink could look a lot different depending on how wet your pen writes. I like pink a lot, I've even been known to have pink hair on occasion. Honestly though, the best color of pink ink that I have comes from a Varsity.

Also, I wish I had some NyQuil... I'm might actually be asleep right now... sigh.

  • 5 months later...

This is an older thread, but I thought I'd add my experience instead of doing a whole new review. 'Your mileage may vary' is a good description for this one. I put this in my Hemisphere first (which is a little on the dry side) and it was way closer to the Pepto end of the spectrum. On the cheap legal pads at my office it was downright nauseating and I thought about trading it. I tried it out in my Rembrandt later (a wetter nib) and it's much closer to the swabs. Looks very nice on good paper, so now I'll be keeping it :)

Sample Request: I really really want to try Diamine Steel Blue. I will trade you samples!

I just unearthed a bottle of this ink that hasn't been used for a year? Not my favorite by any means, but it has fairly large white particles of participate in it. Looks like a snow globe. Yikes! Down the drain it goes.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
