Lamy 2000 Or Pilot Vanishing Point

Verbose

REALLY? I thought it felt so much better with the cap posted. I mean, it's great either way, but posting lets me hold it back a little farther and it's juuust perfect.

I prefer it unposted, too, but then I hold my pens quite low and prefer unposted unless a pen is too short to be comfortable that way.

The cap is pretty light, not like, say, a Townsend or something where posting it throws the balance wildly off.

Best advice I can give is to get one of each (along with a Parker 51). These are my three favorite pens. Great variety, excellent designs and superb writers.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Mike

I snagged a 51 off ebay for a decent price, it writes amazingly, but theres something about the grip that feels a little odd.

Wanted: Lamy 2000, Pilot Vanishing Point.

I agree that the VP is better fro meetings because of the button, but that the 2k is better for long bouts of writing. I have both.

I also agree with Silvermink that my Lamy 2k Fine nib seems more like a Medium - so there is a lot of variety in the nibs.

Using right now:

Jinhao 9019 "F" nib running Birmingham Firebox

Majohn 140 "M" nib running Lamy Dark Lilac

Kaweco Sport Aluminum "M" nib running Diamine Firefly

Delta Reservoir "EF" nib running Colorverse Mariner

Apart from the weight, which is not negligible, the only thing I'd hold against the VP is the ink supply-- there's not a lot of ink in there, and if that's a serious hour of writing you may start to get nervous at the 50 minute mark. I find posting the 2000 is a bit of a non-starter, as the gripper-springs inside the cap tend to squirt it off the back of the pen, not unlike pinching a pumpkin seed (I understand this can vary from pen to pen). Otherwise, I find them both extremely satisfactory, and you might opt for whichever you find more visually appealing.

For the record, a friend of mine was round my place recently and was playing with my pens. Unprompted, with the Lamy 2000, she said (paraphrased) "this one is different to all the others, it's like you're not holding a pen at all".

There are pros and cons to this. Sometimes it can be just that _too_ "transparent" and well-balanced as a writing implement. I like my full-sized VP partly _because_ it is slightly nib-heavy in terms of balance - I've found that my handwriting gets worse when I'm not physically reminded that I am actually holding a pen. On the other hand, sometimes you want something that does have a weight but, because of the balance, feels like it's not there. I'm certainly considering getting a 2000 in M or B as well as the F one I have.

N.B. I bought my dad a 2000 in F for his birthday recently and he's really happy with it it seems. I remember him having various Rotring pens when I was younger, so I thought the 2000 would be the sort of design he'd like.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
