Camping huh? You know, the St Regis lets you make s'mores around the piazza's outdoor fireplaces every winter. The s'mores butler will even load your skewer.

 

Yes, "camping" is a somewhat loose term. It can run from your example to caravan camping, right through to the no-tents ultralight crowd. My recommendations were meant for those hiking in with a tent. Of course if you driving in to the site or even better, staying in a canvas free standing construction on the taiga, then it doesn't really matter which pen you take. The ole MB LE will do in such a case

I still say for most weekend backpacking, a plastic zip-lock and an ordinary fountain pen and journal is fine. I can only think of one really rainy trip I have been on where the tent got wet enough that I might have had trouble. Of course, bulletproof is a good thing - I have gotten journals wet under less demanding conditions.

 

Now if I were doing extensive fieldwork on the Olympic coast, or in a military field deployment where extended stays in extreme wet might be unavoidable, then I would definitely go with the space pen.

 

Another option - Rotring rapidograph with india ink.
