Pelikan M205

Hi all

After reading the lovely review of the Pelikan M205 by Lady Dandelion here whom I have been a follower and fan of for some time, I just had to have one. To my mind it is simply beautiful (though I am sure some on here will beg to differ :) ), especially when filled with a burgundy ink.

I got mine from http://www.pelikanpens.co.uk/ and fitted with a broad rather than BB nib from although I will be also buying the BB at some point.

It is everything I have come to expect from Pelikan and my only complaint is that it is smaller than the M600 or M800 and the nib is steel rather than gold, but that is reflected in the price, so can't complain.

Lovely packaging and comes with highlighter ink (not used that yet)

Filled with Noodler's Burgundy

Construction and quality 9/10

Size and weight 8/10

Overall, I give it 8 out of 10, mainly because it is a little smaller than I like and I am not a great fan of steel nibs, even though this writes without fault. I love it!

So, what do others think of this gorgeous pen?

No, we're all here. Beautifull pen - I always wanted a Pelikan demonstrator but never could pony up the money for one. Oh well, one day.

Thank you for the review. :)

I love that picture of it loaded with burgundy. If I didn't already have one in blue and another one (clear) on the way, that picture of yours alone would convince me to snag one.

Really like mine , too. I chambered yama-budo in there to similarly produce the desired "lava lamp" effect. Careful with Nathan's brew, there....flush well before you load that firefly highlighter. Don't feel badly..lots of FPN'ers are way jaded. They forgot, that before they were using fountain pens, they had to wash out that smokey blanket three times per week...LOL.

These are relatively cheap at £80 - not bad for a nice Pelikan, even if the nib is steel

Great review - you are right about the burgundy in the pen - it's great! Thanks a lot for mention - didn't see this until now .

I was under the impression that this pen was meant to be a document marker / highlighter? Apparently it can be used as a normal fountain pen?

Absolutely. I prefer it w/o fluorescending ink. It's a very sweet broad nib.

Thanks for sharing. I also thought this pen could only be used as a highlighter. Will definitely look into purchasing one of these.

Have to say that mine has been inked and in my pen case since I got it. Still one of my favourite pens (I got a B rather than BB nib )

Just ordered mine sans steel nib but with highlighter ink as I already own a M250 BB nib and a Binder 1.1mm Music Nib that should work well in this. Can't wait...

The real joy of this pen is its use as a highlighter. It's much better for the environment than using a stream of plastic highlighters that will remain in trash dumps for years. The only down side is that the highlights can be difficult to see as you apply them in certain lighting. Otherwise this pen is a delight to use especially for those who make heavy use of highlighters. vinper

ImolaS3,

I have two (2) italic stubs from Niche Pens for my Pelikan M600.

One was converted by Niche from a 14k gold 'OB' nib I had, the other is Niche's steel broad italic stub.

To be honest, I prefer the writing characteristics of the steel nib :) The gold nib is excellent, but the steel, for me, is slightly better.

Have fun !

Best regards

Russ

nice "transformation" lahlahlaw

Don't worry your review is appreciated! I just find curious that you didn't take the BB nib that normaly goes in this pen and haven't tried the highlighter ink as this pen is made for that!

A people can be great withouth a great pen but a people who love great pens is surely a great people too...

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
