Noodler's Midnight Blue Review

I saw this ink in a comparison a while ago and immediately placed it on my “must have” list. After using this ink for a few weeks, it has quickly become one of my favorites. To my eyes, the color is a dark, dusky blue without either purple or green tendencies. It has the added advantage of drying slightly faster than most of the Noodler’s inks that I’ve tried. Despite its deep shade, the ink does exhibit some subtle shading, especially on Staples bagasse. Flow and lubrication are good; I’d judge it to be about middle-of-the-road on the wetness scale. I’ve noticed little if any nib creep. I was surprised to find that the ink is somewhat water-resistant, surviving 30 seconds under running water while still remaining legible.

 

On the downside, I’ve noticed some feathering on Staples Bright White Multipurpose (22 lb.). This may not be completely fair, however. I’ve noticed that the quality of this paper seems to have gone down with the most recent ream I bought. There were no feathering problems whatsoever on HP Premium Choice Laser, HPJ1124 or Staples bagasse.

 

This would be a very nice ink for use in formal correspondence or for business. I think it would look especially nice on an ivory paper.

Thanks for the ink review. I like the writing sample with the Pelikan because it's darker. I like your handwriting. You save a lot of paper by packing 14 words on a line.

Thank you for the nice review. I've pondered the color, but haven't brought myself to try it, yet. I like the dark-sky blues, but I also want some kind of water resistance and even prefer bulletproof. This may be an ink I might use, since it survived your initial water test.

 

I also like your choice of written passage for the sample. I use the Gettysburg Address, as well, in lieu of the old quick brown fox.

Very nice review of one of my favorite inks. I also gave it as a Christmas present and it converted the user from always using black inks to filling 2 of his pens with this ink!

I've used this ink for about a week and I really like the color. It's very rich and pretty enough to go in my journal, but conservative enough for school notes or possibly business purposes.

Thanks for a great review of a great ink. I searched for a deep blue/black for quite a while, buying and trying a number of inks. I loved this the first time I tried it. For the last 2 months (a long time for me), this has been a daily office ink for me.

just found the review - i was thinking about this ink and i decided i am going for it. I do not need many inks but i use maybe 4 to now 5 colors max with this midnight blue. thanks!

Thanks for the review! I like this ink a lot and have been using it regularly on my M400 Pelikan. It is more black than blue black in my opinion. The only problem I have with it is is the dirty appearance it gives the nib (nib creep)
