Sharpie Erasable Pencil

Recommended Posts

Whoa, did you guys hear about this? Hard to miss really since it's featured on at least half a dozen blogs I follow. Sharpie just releases a liquid graphite pencil. It writes like a pencil and can be erased but dries within 24-72 hours to "Sharpie permanent."

I will do a review at the end of this week.

Sharpie is really bringing it this year (steel marker, pen/grip pen, and now this!)

Sounds to me like a cross between the old Parker Liquid Lead pencil from the 1950's and the Papermate erasable ballpoint from about 25-30 years ago. Given that Sanford owns both Parker and Papermate, you can't help but wonder if they were going through some old patents and decided what was old becomes new again.

Some of Sharpie's new stuff seems to be a bit more "upscale" then the usual all-plastic markers that are their mainstay. Interesting.

Here is my review, its kind of lengthy, but I've got a lot of scans of writing samples, comparisons, and tests, along with a video. To sum it up though, I wasnt all that impressed. The aforementioned Stainless Steel Sharpie and the line of Sharpie Pens are much better products in my mind.

If I missed anything in the review that you were curious about Id be glad to answer additional questions here for you.

Those findings were about what I found. You can use your finger to erase a good part of what you write, which I also found surprising.

I had a let-down in the way it writes.... normally takes a letter or two to get started, and def. writes just like a basic bic (cheap) ballpoint pen.

I have erased my marks for about 36 hours now... so I'm gonna try again at 48 and then 72 and see what happens.... but so far at 36 it erases just fine.... so the 1 day on the package seems to be off... I believe more like the 3 days sharpie mentions on their blog.

All in all, I'll use it occasionally, as I don't use pencils much anyways, and it's interesting, worth playing with (for $4.99 for 2 pens and 8 total erasers is pretty good)... but don't go into it having super high hopes like I did.

Oh, and while Im daydreaming here of my ultimate Sharpie Pen that is refillable….I think the best solution would be if there was a Stainless Steel Sharpie Pen that was refillable.

from a different page on the same blog...

that would be a vanishing point competitor for sure.

That the Sharpie. They are the best permanent ink markers absolute, I keep several in my pocket all day at work. They are a bit like the old BIC pens that you usually lose them before they are exhausted. The pencil of liquid is also an excellent idea. I get a package to my wife teacher.

I am amused that this thread was immediately beneath the one that was previously posted about this topic...

Same. 7-8 days and easily erasable.

Engadget posted a blog today, they are on day 9 and easily erasing. They have an inquiry into sharpie about the lack of permanence.

Do you know if the refill would fit an old Liquid Lead pencil? Despite the somewhat disappointing results from your tests, I wouldn't mind getting an old LL pencil working again- just for the heck of it.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
