Zequenz Notebooks

Office Supply Geek supplied an Email address in his review of this new notebook. I dropped them a note. Within 48 Hours I had a nice reply back from Meen(Ms. Meenaree Satachalasin, Export Manager), asking me exactly which and how many notebooks I needed. I rep[lied and about 72 Hours later got a note back apologizing for the delay and to let me know she was working on my request, it seemed doable and I could pay via Paypal. Another 48 hours or so I got a Proforma Invoice for my review. I replied that looked good to me.

Within 24 hours I had their Paypal info zequenz@zenithenterprise.com. Not bad considering the time and day difference from Thailand to the USA. I've paid my invoice and now its hurry up and wait. On my order of 6 notebooks, 9 x 14 Mini Pocket Books, A6 size half in lined and half in gridded pages, plus shipping, I paid a total of about $12.00 USD per Notebook. In line with Mole's, but a better quality FP friendly paper per Office Supply Geek. If you are so inclined, drop Ms. Meenaree Satachalasin, Export Manager at zenith@zenithpaper.com. She is quite helpful, courteous and facile at shipping what you need. Usual disclaimers, no affiliation, just a very satisfied customer. Jim

Jim, Thanks for following up on OfficeGeek's report and demonstrating the ease with which that paper can be ordered. I look forward to a second review of these materials.

Paid with PayPal on the 21st of July. Got the notebooks in today out of Zenith's USA Warehouse in Washington State. Very nice looking. Both lined and gridded playing nicely with XF and F nibs in Sheaffers, Edison, Cali, and Furlano, Medium in Symonds, Stub in Sailor. Inks Waterman South Seas, Blue Black, And Red, Parker Quink Black and Mocha, MB Love letters and Black, Sheaffer Skript in Red. Got Noodlers in Black Widow Red, working well. My Noodlers Seminole Sepia tends to clog my non daily users so I've not tried it yet. Noodlers BSB, I'm still a big chicken, cluck, cluck. I'm enjoying them, bleed through with more wet ink and stub is minimal. I'll have to check with Zenith or OSG, I think the paper is sugarcane product. Show through, minimal but I'm using both sides w/o issues. A nice alternative to Molies. Lots more pages, AKA thicker than a Mollie. If you have to have a hard cover or a ribbon marker, elastic closure, or inside back pocket, you'll be disappointed. I can work around that although I like the Elastic closure(solved with a wide Rubber band). Also like a back pocket, easy enough to add one with printer paper and a bit of rubber cement. They'll run you about $12/each including shipping. A nice FP tolerant paper. Usual disclaimer, no affiliation, just a satisfied customer. YMMV, Jim

Todays update from Export Manager, Ms Meen is Zequenz will be available through Amazon in the next month or so. Shipped from Shoreline, Wash. USA 4 sizes, blank, lined, gridded, in Black or Red Covers. A6 Mini 9 x 14 Cm is $9.95. A6 Standard , 10.5 x 14 cm is 15.95. A5 Medium is 12.5 x 17.8 cm at $22.50. A5 Large is 14.8 x 21 cm at $25.50. IRRC, I don't remember where I got this, it's sugarcane based paper in 100 gm weight for the blanks and 70 gm for the printed notebooks. Previous poster and I found them to be FP friendly. My testing was on lighter weight, lined and gridded paper. Shipping charges not specified yet for Amazon.

That is all, Jim

Joshua:

I'll bring you one on September meeting. Lined or Gridded? What's your pleasure? Jim

Jim:

Awesome!!! thanks!!! Gridded would be fantastic, and i'll use it for physics!

can't wait till the September meeting--i had a blast at the 2nd one!

Joshua:

Gridded it is. I used Engineering paper for most of my science classes 4 x 4 square printed on the back side of pale green or pale yellow paper. The lines showed through enough to provide a format for sketching, benzene rings and Physics calculations. This should work well for you. Glad you liked the Red ink, because these are Firey Red(the grids), I think Zenith calls it. IIRC the black is Midnight Noir, or maybe I made both of those colour names up? Jim

I don't know how many pages they have but, they are thicker than the Molies. Maybe after I quit playing Domestic God tomorrow(don't start me on that) I'll count them. Tonights quick eyeball says 14 mm thick, not counting the covers. Might look at the web site

Zenith Paper and see if it's listed. Little late for me to jump on that for now. Jim

no worries! :)

i can't find it listed, but i figured if we measure the height of all the pages, and find out the height of one page, we can make an estimate :)

can't wait till these hit amazon, i love the 360-feature!

I'm wondering, will the pocket size one fit our leather journal covers from Tony?

Joshua:

I, too, looked on the Zenith site. No page count listed best I can tell. I've got an order form from Zenith, Again no pge count listed. As for fitting Tony's covers, I pulled out my double cahiers and the 360 fits in like a hand in driving glove. It's right at the edge of the leater cover width/horizontially. If your a purist, I'd have Tony cut that length about a 1/4 " longer. If you're more flexible, lik moi, you're in like Flint. Another 6 weeks and you can give it a go in person. I think it's a go for you in class, Jim

I was able to buy two of the Large A5 size Zequenz notebooks today for AU$16 each. Quite good compared to the suggested Amazon price of US$25.50.

Anyway, 20 sheets of its paper comes at 1.8mm, and the book is 18mm thick (pages minus the covers), so there should be about 200 sheets = 400 pages in one of these notebooks.

Thanks David. The large A5 14.9 x 21 cm are $25.50. The Medium A5 12.5 x 17.8 cm are 22.50 USD. I'm using the A6 Mini at 9 x 14 cm, which are 9.95 USD. I'm a bit confused as I thought A5 and A6 were a standardized measurement not several different sizes. My Conversion sheet shows the A5 at 14.8 x 21 cm the larger sized one) and the A6(the larger of the 2 A6's listed) at 10.5 x 14.8 cm. I still haven't counted the pages out by hand. Jim

You are right, this is the first few of the A-Series sizes --

A Series cm cm

A0 118.92 84.09

A1 84.09 59.46

A2 59.46 42.04

A3 42.04 29.73

A4 29.73 21.02

A5 21.02 14.87

A6 14.87 10.51

A7 10.51 7.43

What Zequenz call the Large A5 is true A5, and matches my other A5 notebooks (Rhodia, Clairefontaine, Writersblok).

Sorry, that was supposed to come out as a table.

Wow us Colonials out in the Tules, never knew A sizes came in so many choices. Mt conversion sheet only shows 4A0 to A10 sizes.

The Baby of the family is 2.6 x 3.7 cm and Grandpa the giant is 168.2cm x 237.8 cm. That's 66" x 94 "" roughly. Interesting, Jim

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
