It's a little like a person who is unrelentingly cheerful -- it's possible to get too much exposure.

Umm,

Yer English is perfect! If only wife would see it that way...

On the other hand, I really like the brightness of BSB, especially on the Rhodia or Clairefontaine paper background. It is so unique that none of the other blues I have even comes close. That is not to say I don't like the other blues like Visconti Blue, CdA Sky Blue and Diamine Majestic Blue.

I like BSB. I teach first grade(6 year old) children. A "You had a Terrific day! note, or comment on a page really "pops" when written with such a bright color. I think the little children like the pop-off-the-page-colors. I agree an entire page of correspondence in BSB may be "too much of a good thing", and harsh on the eyes. I think BSB is wonderful for checklists, grocery lists, signing Birthday cards and writing memos. It commands attention.

So does yelling "fire" in a public building, but I would not recommend it. Just kidding. Imagine how boring it would be if we all agreed on everything.

Oh wait this is getting boring...

Back on subject... I use BSB on a daily basis and while a full page can be a bit much, it does seem to make single notes stand out. My only real gripe is now every other blue looks so dull.... :gaah:

I just filled a Reform 1745 with 1/3 water and 2/3 BsB. The last time I used full strength BsB in this pen, I experienced feathering and blue fingers. That was 4 or 5 ink fills ago on this pen. I did not notice any staining when I filled the pen and...my fingers look like human fingers, not alien fingers. We'll see how the it works over the next few days when i write on cheap school paper. I want my 90% bottle of Baystate Blue, which I received for free with the "Karma" of the Pay It forward thread, to continue to mature into my writing. I LOVE this blue ink!

I am a bit skeptical that the BSB I purchased is truly BSB. The Noodler's web site shows BSB as a very vivid BLUE, just what I want.

The bottle I received says BSB on the label. However, a swab sample looks PURPLE. In fact, it looks exactly like the Noodler's web site sample of Baystate Grape!

The Noodler's Blue that I received at the same time looks blue, just like the Noodler's sample, which should nominally "calibrate" my eyes and computer monitor.

I contacted the shop that I purchased it from and sent them a swab sample. They said that they contacted Noodler's and got confirmation that it really is BSB and not BSG in the wrong bottle.

I just can't believe that this is blue. As I am writing this I decided to check the Goulet Swab Shop and Noodler's Blue looks blue and BSB looks quite, um, purple. Maybe I do have BSB.

(Interesting, when I scanned a swab sample of BSB and N's Blue, the scans both looked blue.)

I want the blue that I see in the N's web site. How do I get that color?

Any thoughts most appreciated.

BSB can look purplish at times, especially if your pen writes wet. Blot the nib on something and you'll see the tell-tale blue-violent color of BSB. I was noticing that same effect myself today. The blotter reveals it clearly, however.

This ink does teeter on the verge of purple, and it can really seem purple through an LCD screen. Blues are one of the hardest colors to get color accurate on a computer screen. I adjust all of my swabs for color accuracy, but of course they're going to vary on every computer screen. That and blue is one of the colors that people perceive differently with their eyes, even looking at the exact same thing. So yeah, use the swab of it as a rough guide, but it's by no means meant to be a replacement for the real deal. It's impossible to capture the eye-burning brightness of this blue on a computer screen!!

Thanks for that info. I called Noodler's yesterday and talked with Dick. His comment was that the BSB should look blue, but thought it very unlikely that my bottle labeled Baystate Blue was incorrectly filled with something else.

I am sending my bottle back to Noodler's to verify. If it is miss-labeled they will send me a proper bottle of BSB.

Will let you all know when this is sorted out.

+1 for diluting BSB about 2 parts ink 1 part water. Ordinarily it almost feels like paint as you write with it. It has the feel of a very well lubricated ink with some additional thickness that sometimes causes flow issues.

I know I'm in the minority here, but personally the color of this ink doesn't wow me. When I put it in an italic nib it just looks like a bright blue sharpie. I prefer something like PR Naples Blue that has an eye popping sheen and lots of great shading. I always thought I'd love this ink regardless of the problems, but apparently brightness isn't everything (at least not to me).

I've always been rigorous in the flushing of my pens, so when I began to use BSB I didn't need to do anything different.....*shrug*

BTW - I keep an old hot sauce shaker bottle filled with water that allows me to dispense one drop of water at a time and that's all it usually takes if a nib dries out.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
