Best Place To Buy Pens

The Royal Pen

Recommended Posts

The website that I use to buy pens, well, their prices are getting so high I needs a ladder to pay for them. Are there any other websites --besides John Neal-- with low prices where I could buy Parker, Pilot, and other pens?

I will contact Pam at Oscar Braun & Avalon Jewelers. These are the 2 main stores; I purchase my pens from.

I've dealt with Pam - great prices and very fast service.

I have never purchased anything from melpens.com but I have asked others in different post and they have all sworn by her, I have cruised the site frequently drooling over the Lamy 2000 price. Her other prices seem pretty good too. No affiliation and all that jazz.

I'll give a recommendation to Melpens. Their prices are great, and the delivery is really fast, too. I'm a repeat customer.

;-) I love these kinds of posts. Everybody lists their favorite store, over and over and over again. ;-)

OK, I buy a lot from Jetpens.com. Free shipping over $25 and fast shipping to my town in SoCal. Pretty good deals, too.

pengallery is another one that you can consider. normally for japanese pens, i will get them from ebay, there are a couple of very reliable sellers there.

Please check out my blogshop for fountain pens and inks at http://inkoholicanonymous.blogspot.com/ Reviews of my pens can be found there too!

I will vouch for ipenstore.com. They carry some brands not normally carried by other stores: Ohto and Worther.

Excellent communication and very responsive customer service.

If you want NOS Sheaffers, not on your list, then Teri at Peyton.

But I'm puzzled by the post. After visiting several of the sites mentioned here (and from http://db.uwaterloo.ca/~tozsu/Pens/penlistings.html) and looking through my my 2010 catalogs from 6 different major shops, the prices on mid- to high-end fountain pens do not vary more than a few percent. The markups seem to be exactly the same everywhere for a certain tier of merchandise. Many of these posts are recommendations based on customer service and the total experience of dealing with a retailer. Those are not intangible attributes, they are worth something.

I buy a lot of stuff from iPenstore.com, the same person as "streetfair" on ebay. Good prices and cheap shipping on a lot of nice stuff. They seem to mainly buy lots of stuff they get good deals on, and are not a source for all major models of all major brands. But they have things like Ohto brand rollerball pens and refills, which are pretty good low-cost pens and not easy to find elsewhere. I also got a Parker Vector with a Batman logo, a good deal on Schmidt Superbowl refills, and a Parker Jotter fountain pen (same thing as the "15" I think). They also have a couple Parker 45s.

I think often the "best place to buy pens" depends on where you are. Shipping, taxes, customs, etc. sometimes those negate the savings of buying internationally and can even lead to your paying more than buying locally. Consider as well the possibility of problems which require your sending the pen back to reseller, which can be much more costly when buying internationally (or outside of the EU if you're in the EU for instance). Lastly, if there happens to be a local distributor of the pen, then warranty service may require your sending the pen to the manufacturer rather than your local distributor.

So providing your location can help.

for Parkers, Penseller from France on ebay is excellent. He also has excellent prices on Watermans. I just picked up an Expert and a Hemisphere and the two together (saved on shipping by buying them together) cost me a grand total of $88 Cdn. Since the MSRP on an Expert seems to be in the $145-$160 US range, I figure I did okay.

Pensgallery is an excellent option on ebay. I like their prices on Pelikan pens. I bought from them a Pelikan M215 and it arrived very quick by a major courier ( I don´t remeber if FedEx, DHL or UPS).

I've had good experiences with Jetpens, Amazon (limited stock though), StationeryArt and the FPN Marketplace. I'll probably be purchasing from Pam Braun, Engika, mr. Binder and Mr. Mottishaw before the year is out though.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
