Vintage Italian Pens

IWantThat

Recommended Posts

Anyone here collect, or have any, vintage Italian pens? I love the idea of vintage pens, but must admit that my favorite pens are of Italian origin/design. I think I've only seen 1 vintage Italian pen on the market. I imagine they're more often found in Europe.

I don't think anybody did (does?) celluloid pens better than the Italians, but I know only a little about them, and I don't have my notes with me. I would like an Aurora Amica, or a Montegrappa Elmo.

Montegrappa (Elmo), Columbus, Ancora, Omas, Aurora, and numerous others.

Nice post here on the Bella Italia

I collect vintage italian pens, but I'm italian and I live in Italy, so I have some advantages...

But Italian brands had a very little production if compared to american brands, so they are also quite uncommon outside Italy and had very small numbers compared to brands like Waterman, Parker, Eversharp or Sheaffer.

Main italian historical brands were Aurora and Omas, but the older ones are Tibaldi, Elmo and Nettuno.

You can find some english information abous some of these brands in the following pages of my wiki:

http://www.fountainpen.it/Ancora/en

http://www.fountainpen.it/Fabbrica_Italiana_Penne_a_Serbatoio_Aurora/en

http://www.fountainpen.it/Columbus/en

http://www.fountainpen.it/Elmo_Montegrappa/en

these are between the few pages for which I did some translations (and I apologize for the my poor english). You can find a more complete list of italian producers here:

http://www.fountainpen.it/Categoria:Italia

but the corresponding pages are written in italian; hopefully google or some other web translator could help you to understand their content.

Regards

Simone

PS if someone want to help to improve translations or just make some new ones, I can give write access to the wiki to anyone wanting to improve it.

Thank you both for the great links :) I can see shopping in my future. And a trip to Italy wouldn't be bad either!

Hi Tamara,

I do collect vintage italian pens, I love Ancora in particular, but these pens are hard to find even here.

You may want to read my topic on the Ancora Calamus, if you like italian design.

I am attracted by celluloid pens, but you can also find beautiful vintage pens with amazing italian overlay works on them.

Ciao

Z

Because it is one of my favorite brand I just made a raw translation also for the Omas page, you can find it here:

Hi, Tamara,

Besides the links given above, there are some italian pens here: http://www.penboard.de/shop/

I don't have italian pens, but for what I have seen in web sites, their celluloids are some of the best

I'm a user, baby.

We love what we do not possess. Plato, probably about pens.

Hi

I restore and collect vintage fountain pens and do love the Italian range. I have a wonderful Aprillia and just acquired an Eros Black Star.

Best designed fountain pens are Italian

Best Piston fillers... German (Have a mint Arengo)

I don't collect vintage Italian pens but I do have one, a black-and-gold Aurora 88P. It's swoon-worthy; elegant, well-made and a beautiful writer. I'd post a photo but I'm told I've hit my limit.

Does a pen from the late 80's count as vintage? The only Italian I own that might be considered vintage is this Delta NDP56:

Beautiful, graceful taper at the nib. Thanks, Cordovian! Yes! Vintage! (Whatever, it's nice to see!)

PS - I like that caramel ribbon barrel too.

It's a beautiful writer too. Here's a couple more pics I took when researching it with Delta:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
