100% user. Pens are tools - wonderful, elegant and graceful tool but tools that we have the joy of using daily.

I'm a user. Pens are meant to be used, and I only keep pens around so that they can be used.

a collector who also uses his pens. with over 200 pens, i can't pretend that i get them just to use them. i value FPs not just as tools (which they are, primarily and doubtlessly), but also as art objects in themselves, which give me pleasure to look at, to feel, and to write with ;)

I'm a user, but I've accumulated quite a few pens in the course of that. I'm considering starting a modest collection of interesting modern and minimalist pens, but would probably still use those, too.

I am a user, I have a small collection of nearly 30 pens and I take two pens to work each day, and every week or so swop the pens and work my way through my collection.

What a lovely way to enjoy your pens!

To the OP: I think you need another category: accumulator. I don't actively collect pens myself, but I have "built" a reasonable size collection through buying and trading pens that I enjoy owning and using.

Where's the option for both? I would have liked an inclusive rather than an exclusive "or"; as it is I cannot vote.

Definitely a user but have managed to become an accumulator (thank you, Martin, for that term) of quite a lot of pens somehow. Not expensive ones at all but mostly good user pens that do their job nicely. I can't see that I would ever be able to collect pens and not use them. I understand why people do that but I just couldn't.

User...who's become an accumulator over the years.

Couldn't call myself a "collector" since there's no real theme to my accumulation other than each one has caught my fancy for some reason or another...whether it be the color and/or barrel material, the engineering, the nib, the shape, the size or some other subjective attribute.

I always get a kick out of these "no affiliation" notations when it's blatantly obvious the poster has absolutely nothing to do with the brand, company, etc. beyond being a customer. It must be a feel-good/feel-important thing. So I'll note up front that nothing I write here on this forum is influenced by any financial-gain motivation.

... accumulator (thank you, Martin, for that term) ...

And all along I thought Richard Binder coined that term in his comprehensive Pen Glossary...

"Accumulator: Term used among pen fanciers to denote a person who acquires pens with no apparent focus; i.e., someone who considers any and all pens to be "fair game." People new to pens are likely to be accumulators because they have not yet acquired sufficient knowledge to develop a focused interest; but there are also experienced people who remain accumulators because their interests are too eclectic to permit a perceptible focus."

I think you'll find the word has been in the English language a bit longer than that... In any case, I've been a WES member for around a dozen years and the term is often used at our meetings as I'm sure it has whenever enthusiasts of any kind gather. However, it's useful to provide a definition, if one is required.

I quoted Binder's definition further up in the thread. I think it suffices.

Gee whizz, Felix1, I was just thanking Martin for providing the term here and now.

Besides, it's partly Martin's fault as an enabler that I have become an accumulator of pens and inks, since I bought some of them from him. :P

I am a user who has collected too many pens that I don't use and now I am trying to pare down the collection immensely to get to the ones I really do use. Plus I could use the dough. :vbg:

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
