Can I Replace The Cartridges With A Converter?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a Classique on FPN, not sure of the age but made in W Germany so older. It apparantly takes cartridges. It's empty at the moment.

Is it possible to get a piston type thing to put into it so I can suck ink up out of a bottle? The only other MB I have came with a piston in it, if it's called a piston. Where would I get one?

Thanks

Ryan

I have a Classique from around 1990 and it takes the normal MB screw-in converter.

The main advice I have is: if it doesn't fit Exactly and Easily, DON'T use it.

Montblanc / Pelikan / Sailor / Pilot / Lamy / Cross / Parker

There are convertors for the 144 for sure. (That's the Classique, right?) I have one and it has the screw-in type convertor. I have read here that some 144s take a convertor that just snaps in. ITA with Silvabreen's advice. If you do get one, just make sure it's the right type for your pen.

Happiness is a real Montblanc...

Look at the nipple in the section. If it is threaded get a screw in converter, if smooth get the push in. The size is the standard international.

Thanks. I went to the boutique, and they say they only have screw in ones now, and are contacting the service centre to see if they have old stock of the push in ones.

It's a standard international size so a Waterman or Pelikan or almost any International Standard converter will fit.

I went to a pen shop to get a converter today, and they looked into the pen and said it is a screw in pen, so they pulled out an MB converter, but although it fits, it's too long! The pen is an older 144, and the brass ring on the barrel seems to be thicker on the inside and block the end of the barrel. I then went to the boutique and they swapped barrels with a newer pen and it's better but still a bit too long. So in the end I ended up buying a cheap and small Monteverde converter. So unless you can find an old converter, a 144 can't take one.

I've heard you can just file down the converter if its too long. Not the end that holds ink, of course, but the twisting knob.

However, I am positive there is a correct converter for your year pen, it wouldn't be in a MB Boutique but you may find it online.
